Ordering some new goodies.......thoughts?
« on: May 05, 2010 - 10:36:54 AM »
Well I just ordered the XV sub frame connectors since I am going to be having the body finished up in the next couple months, I need to get stuff like this before hand so I can undercoat over it.

I am also thinking about ordering the XV inner fender braces, and once again will do that sooner rather than later since I will be priming in that area in the near future.

I am settled on the idea of the sub frame connectors as I want more strength along the whole body for a number of reasons.

On the inner fender braces I am about 65% sure I want them and thus am asking for your thoughts here. I realize that they will stiffen up the chassis some more and that will lead to better handling (which is one of my goals for my project), but I don't know how it would affect ride quality. So basically looking for info from people that know......would this destroy the quality of the ride or is it an upgrade that is totally worth doing?

Thanks for any help guys.

**EDIT**

Crap! lol. Ive done some more looking at XV's site and noticed the tubular radiator brace.......and now I am considering that lol. So any thoughts on that piece?

It will have a positive impact on ride quality as well as it will allow the suspension to work more fully towards its capability rather than allowing the uni-body structure to be a part of the suspenison.

The uni-body structure is the foundation of everything around it, much like the foundation of a house supports all the wooden structure above it. If your foundation is moving around, whether it is a car or a house, it will never fully allow anything else to work as effectively as if it were solid.

Ok that sounds good. I will probably get all of them then. My main concern was it making the ride quality horrible, because I have had a couple of sports cars and they had a real rough ride. But if this won't affect the ride quality negatively on the cuda then no worries :)

Your ride quality will come from a combination of wheel base, track width, alignment specs, spring rates, wheel rates, motion control, and a variety of other variables. It is a unified package that all needs to work in concert together. This is how XV was able to significantly step up the wheel rates while actually improving the ride quality and handling.
