72 Challenger Bucket Seats
« on: May 07, 2010 - 09:21:03 AM »
Title says it all, I need 72 Challenger Bucket Seats. My understanding is that 72-74 seats are all the same.

Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance!

 :grinno:

Where are you located?
Do you need both?
Are you looking for perfect seats?
Are you looking for seats that you can fix up on your own that need some work?
Any specific color?
Are you willing to travel?  :poopoke:  :lol2:

72 seats are different than 73-74.  72's still used an open seat back like the 70-71s.  BE&A should have the plastic seat backs available soon.

LOL, I should have given more details.

I've already purchased new seat covers and seat backs from Year One. I thought I was going to recover the seats in the car, only to discover that they aren't the right ones. I think what I have is 70 seats that have been recovered. They don't match up with the new covers at all.

So yes, I need both. Only looking for seats with relatively good foam, and not rusted completely apart. Surface rust is expected on the frame, even minor welding is not problem. I'd prefer solid frames though.

I'm located in Yorktown VA. I'd be willing to travel 4 hours away or so. 8 hours of driving in one day is enough for me. I'd rather just have em' shipped to me though. ;)

Thanks!

I have a set of 72 seats that I would be willing to swap for you 1970 seats.  I have a 1970 cuda that was born with a bench seat that I got rid of.  I bought a set of 72 seats to go in it because I couldn't find a set of 70 seats.  Wanna swap.

The seats are originally green and the seat tracks are good except one seat track has a missing mounting stud.  Easy fix for a weekend warrior.  Also, there are a few places in the foam that need repaired.  No problem for an ineterior restoration shop.

You can see them in the background behind my cuda.

Let me know...

That would be awesome! I'd love to swap. My biggest worry is whether or not these are 70 seats or not. They've been recovered, and the current covers do not have a Chrysler tag. The bottom seat frame does however. You can see pics of the seat when I went to refurbish it here (scroll down a bit):

The seat back foam is very similar to the 70 reproduction foam

vs

You can see the repro is just a bit different, but very similar. I don't know if this is due to the repro being slightly different than the original, or if this seat is not a 70. That Year One foam is used on not only 70 E bodies, but also on several A and B bodies as well.

I can't make heads or tails of the Chrysler tag on the seat frame. Know of any seat experts?

Let me know what you think!

I am thinking those seats are a 72 and up version or possibly not for e-bodies.  The 70/71 e-body versions have a diecast side plate at the hinge point.  Your seats have plastic side covers made into the back cover as one piece.  Sorry, but I guess I will hang onto the seats I have and use them until I find a set of 70 seats.

It almost worked out though.  The seats are really getting hard to find.

I did more research on the seats today, and am more confused now than I was two days ago.

Oh well, thanks for considering the swap!
