Took it out for a cruise today and snapped some pics.   I'm still working on some small things and getting everything working.

Today I pulled the grill, headlight bezels and trim rings.  The "chrome" is actually polished aluminum with a clear anodizing.  It was really nasty.  Faded, milky and chipped all to hell.

I used paint stripper to strip the old paint off, then oven cleaner to get the anodizing off.  I used the stuff in the spray bomb and it took 3 soakings of 15 minutes each to get it off.  I scrubbed with a brillo pad.

There were plenty of dents and dings, so I worked the dents out and then sanded them smooth. 150, 220 400 then 800.  Hit it with some 0000 steel wool then used my polishing wheel to polish them up.   They look great!  Iplan on clear coating them with urethane and then shooting the RT style black using SEM trim black.

Next up I will clean up the grill, strip it, polish the bottom strip then clear coat and paint the black.  The inside grill part I am going to paint flat black.  I've stripped the CHallenger logo and am going to repaint that.

I'll get some pictures as it progresses.

I finished the bezels.  They came out pretty good.

You already have the rear spoiler so you have to get the front spoiler. If your have the rallye hood,  you should put on the hood blackout. If you do that, then you should put on the black 70 longtitudinal stripes. My 2cents.

Just bumping thos thread since it's been a while and the car is back on the road.

ShelbyDogg, I have the rallye hood now.  I am going to do the paint work myself since I shoot guitars I have all the gear and a booth.  Some new developments are I am loosing the clear coat on the top of one of the fenders. Since the color would be hard to match, and more expensive, I am thinking of doing the hood and top of fender blackout like an AAR Cuda.   Then I am thinking of the T/A stripes minus the T/A 340 business.  Top it off with Rallye wheels or maybe 15" torq thrust with grey centers.

I'll get more pics as it progresses but keep in mind I have no skills or loot to do an exciting project like some. This is just my hot rod/bomber for now.  :)

Here is a pic from last year as it is now with the rallye hood and wheel well trim I got from a member here.

I made that comment in 2010!  I'm glad you got the new hood instead of the scooped hood. I love the Challenger rallye hood. What do you think?

Yeah I think it's a huge improvement.  I need to get some paint on it though.   Front spoilers and some good tires and rims it will be looking good.

Make sure that you use the same blackout paint on the hood and stripes, or if you get them from a company, order them both at the same time.
If you order new wheels, I always go 15x10, 68-70 b-body rear, 1" spring relocation kit, 295/50/15 tire.

I was thinking decals for the sides, but I suppose it woulcd be cheaper to shoot them.

Thanks for the tip on the wheels.  From what I can see there they look good.
