I do and have for over 30 years. I feel the reverse pattern is better too, but the main issue to make SURE you have for safety is a low engine braking band apply Valve Body.

No braking ie no band apply is more likely to cause the sprag to fail and that can lead to serious injury or death!

Call John Cope at CopeRacing transmissions. He builds them and is a great Mopar guy...

thanks guys.....the problem i have on the street is...when ur on the throttle, goin from d (1st) to 2 (2nd)....its too easy with the factory slapstic to slide it into 1 (3rd high gear)....so u end up short shifting it....when you use the slapstick like its suppose too be used...theres no way u can do that...cause it click or locks in between each gear.....thats why i want to change my vb.....i believe i have a cheetah actually....no sure though...i talked to a and a trans. in indy and he asked me if the cars in low gear and u give it gas, then let off...does the car still rolll or does it kinda break itself....????? any idea why he would ask that

I remember one time with the slapstick i put it in 1 and hammered it to 2nd and it went the whole way into park cause the button was stuck.......  :eek4: I flush mounted a megashifter into the factory console and sold off all the slapstick stuff.....

That is how to do it, flush mount aftermarket shifter in its place--one set up for reverse manual valve body.

I run a Cheetah with no rear band apply for years on the street with 3.91 gears, no problems. In fact I like how you can let up on the throttle in 1st gear and not having the engine revving up

im not certain...but my setup is from the early to mid 90's...dont know for sure...but is that band issue something new or old......i doubt i have that setup..and yes im on my 2 nd motor with the same guts in the tranny........and  391 's and never hurt anything.....now my new motor has alot more grunt though....500 plus.....but so far i havent hurt anything yet......but i do know im changing out vb so i can get the manual forward pattern... i want to keep my interior stock appearing, and use the slapstick.....not sure if that band situation is a something i need, or am willing to pay for....if its the same money for either way...then ill problaby go with that....any more input fellows is appreciated

TransGo has a kit to convert your OEM valve body to a manual shift.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A-727 TransGo TF-3 Shift Kit, Manual Control
Item #727-TF3 Price: $99.95
Year 1962 up

This TransGo kit converts an OEM valve body to a forward pattern manual valve body.  The unit will not shift until the shifter is moved.  Will downshift at any speed.  The rear band is applied in low gear.  Kit includes a modified manual valve that charges the torque converter in Park.

I found it at tsr racing for 100 bucks.

I have a transgo forward pattern MVB in my car and it works great.  :2cents:

good idea sledgehammer....im thinkin the same thing....vb are a 500 dollar deal....im still cant see why all the shops push the reverse vb....they just keep saying the forward manual isnt as good.......i checked out the tsr deal for a hundred...but i would still have to buy a stock vb to put that kit on.....there are some that will build me a forward manual that applies the pressure. to the band....500 beans....Crazy thing is this all started because i want to use my original slapstick set up...and with the rev vb,i just dont like shifting that way.....like the forward vb that u just bump the shifter up ......thnaks for the input

He is asking that to find out if you have a low band apply or not.

It doesn't matter forward or reverse......... as long as it has Low Band Apply. Cope Racing Transmissions makes the best reverse pattern low band apply VB out there.

I see that you are wanting to go back to forward pattern to use your slap stick again. JVX makes a good forward pattern manual VB also. If your transmission now does not have a low band apply VB,then other internal mods (rear servo) MAY have to be done to go to a forward pattern Manual VB.
