I have the exact same wiring coming off the back of my stereo as you do. That crossover plugs into a harness which also plugs into the the 3 wires from the stereos back. Maybe it's not needed??? Here's the schematic for it anyway, look near the center with all the colors.

It's a 2 speaker car , I do have a fader switch, but haven't gotten anywhere near messin with that, I picked up a second fader off ebay, but I think its for a 3 speaker dash(extra wires) when I get a little further along(with a working radio) I can post up pics of what all i have & see if we can make sense of it.
Radio should just be front rear & common, fader should just determine how much goes where, simple yes so why the heck can't it go in that easy!  ??? rich.

Engineers had to have something to do.... Have you tried contact cleaner on the volume control?
Green light tells me it's pulling in the station so the problem has to be on the output side.

Just ordered the speaker you posted from amozon, I get some contact cleaner & give it one more try when the new speaker comes, but at least I can put the back half of the interior together when that comes(just don't wanna crawl in the trunk, I'm not a small guy!)
Thanks for the help,Rich.
