Barracuda Gran Coupe Convertible
« on: May 17, 2010 - 01:28:32 PM »
Well, I open this thread to share with you guys my new project.   I bought this 1970 Plymouth Barracuda Gran Coupe convertible some months ago and after a long waiting to have it shipped to Italy (and cleared by the EU customs... :banghead:) it stands now safe in my home, ready to be disassembled and carefully inspected.

It seems that only 66 1970 Barracuda GC convertible with big block were made; so that car has to be considered pretty rare and I will try to restore it as more correct and original as possible.

I have original fender tag and boradcast sheet, so I should have all informations to bring it back to his original beauty !!

Some more info from the fender tag:

FENDER TAG:
V5X = Body Side Molding (Black)
Y05 = Build to USA Specs
EN1 = End of Sales Codes
M91 = Luggage Rack
N41 = Dual Exhaust
N85 = Tachometer
P37 = Power Convertible Top
R11 = AM Radio (2 Watts)
C55 = Bucket Seats
G31 = OS RH Manual Standard Mirror
G33 = OS LH Remote Racing Mirror
L31 = Hood/Fender Mounted Turn Signals
M25 = Wide sill moldings
M31 = Belt Moldings
V3W = Convertible Top (White)
A01 = Light Package
A21= Elastomeric Colored Front Bumper Package
A62 = Rallye Instrument Cluster Package
B51 = Power Brakes
C16 = Console w/Woodgrain Panel
EB5 = Bright Blue Poly (Body Paint)
P6B5 = Blu (interior trim)
902 = September, 02
E63 = 383 cid 4 barrel V8 H.P. 335hp
D32 = Heavy Duty Automatic Transmission

and from the Broadcast Sheet:

D53 = 3.23:1
D91 = Sure grip diff
T87 = f70x14 rwl

Lucky you to own a vert :2thumbs:    You have a way of getting body parts over there?   That primer is hiding a lot of problems I see. Hope that maybe some of us can help you find the correct parts.  Why is it you have a 1963 chrysler 8 3/4 in there? I see the axle nut.  Do you have the correct dash?  Or maybe you need to post a want add for some of the parts your missing. For your sake I ask.......... Did you check the cowel and radiator core support for the correct matching numbers to the drive train? A lot of parts have been changed out on the car. You probably know that tho.   I wish you the BEST in the restoration.

As you can see there are still many parts misssing and many others to be replaced or fixed.  I bought the car mainly because the frame rails seem to be still solid and because cowl and radiator support report #numbers.    It seems that someone started to collect parts and start to restore the car but probably ran out of gas...

When I bought the car, there wasn't any wheels and suspensions. I asked the seller to make the car as a rolling shell in order to facilitate the shipping process.  This is probably the reason because you see a non correct rear end.  Anyway I will replace it.

I hope that you guys can help me during the project with your support and advices.   I have no chances to get parts here.  Generally speaking I have to buy almost everyting from US.  It's just more expensive due to the shipping and taxes.  But the currency ratio helps a bit.

For the body parts, there is a reseller in Germany that provides all AMD and Sherman products.   I will try to draft a list in next weeks and place the first order.

Hey, nice project!, I will be looking forward to watching your progress. I may have something you need soon, My dad's `71 Challenger convert has the standard gauge cluster in it from a Gran Coupe convertible, the woodgrain one which was Gran coupe only. I am looking to replace it with the correct parts, at which point I would sell the Gran coupe parts(pictured), I notice yours doesn't even have the switch for the top lift.
The parts I have need to be restored, but they are hard to come by. Performance car graphics in Florida could restore these bezels for you and then ship to you from there, just a thought. I am currently looking for the correct bezels only, so I would be keeping the gauges and swithes, unless the parts that I find include them.
