I have been started to disassemble the car (what remains of the car...) in order to have a clear idea of the work needed on the body panels and on the frame.

I would like to assess what spots can be fixed with a patch and where is worth to buy an OEM panel.

At moment my main concern is that there are many repairs that some folk did in the past and that probably I have to fix again with a better welding work.

Mike,
did you fix it ?    Have you removed the patch and welded a new piece or you just smoothed the weld area and filled with a new butt weld?

Paolo, that metal on my car is only covering a mess!  :bricks1: I am going to replace that entire area (the panel is now being reproduced).  If I had your problem I think I would grind clean the areas of the welds and re-weld. If the patches are hiding rust, or are just installed poorly, I would re-do or replace the repaired areas. If you can make it look good, do it

basically  they welded all paches overlapping them with the existing metal.  And probably they planned to smooth and hide the weld with plastic filler (a lot of...).  I honestly would have preferred to MIG a butt weld and avoid to apply too much filler.

I will spend some time during this wekend to make the existing weld job look good and after I will decide about how move on.

I'm wondering if it could be worth in this phase of the body work to stiffening the body with some metal reinforcement.  I gave a look at the website of USCartool and Xv Motorsport.   I would like to install the Frame Connectors, Inner fender Braces and Lower Core support frame brace.

Do you have any experience with such products ?  what do think about ?

the installation seems to be just a welding job because the products SHOULD fit  the body without issues.

Yes. I think once you clean up the issues you have with the old repairs, definitely do the extra supports. Especially if you plan to install some "extra credit" horsepower!

I bought the UScartool subframe connectors for my 74 chally.  Some of the floor contour did not match the connectors, not even closely.  It was as if the connectors were designed for maybe an earlier model year.
After reading thru a number of posts on this forum, sounds like not matter what connector you buy, there will be fitting/grinding on the connectors to make them fit flush with the floor of the car.  Can be done, just might take some time.
I ended up making my own connectors from rectangular tubing, but cut thru the floor of the car to make the strongest structure possible.  The post of my connctor build is:  http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=54896.0

thanks for the information.  Due to the high cost to have them shipped to Italy, I will probably try to fabricate the connectors and the braces by myself too.

Yesterday I looked carefully to the trunk pan and I think that it was porobbaly replaced with a non correct piece.  Taking a look to another post (Sean), I have undertood that 1970 trunk pan has the hole on the top of the humps. The 1971-74 does not have the holes on top of the humps rather, they are on the rear facing sides of the humps.

AMD is the only one to have the correct part, while Goodmark has a common replacement for all the years (70-74).

My pan seems to have no holes at all:

something is moving...

I started working on the outside of the left inner fender.  It was probably the area where the worst welding job has been done. I spent a lot of effort grinding and patch fixing the previous welds in order to understand if I can keep going in the same way for all the rest of the body.   So, I applied  a first "heavy" coat of epoxy primer.

the outcome is not so bad.   I will smooth and refinish better the area with some bondo before starting with painting process.

here some pics;  any comment and suggestion will be appreciated:
