WIW - 71 Dodge Challenger
« on: May 17, 2010 - 03:27:45 PM »
Hi everyone,

It has been a while since I have been on here.
I have been through a bunch here lately and just want to know what my car could be worth if I needed to sell it in the near future.
I do not have any pics at the moment but I have a bunch of pics and info on my website: www.jacksboys.com

Thanks for your help,
Jacksboys

Sorry to see you may have to sell, I've not seen your car in person but based on the pics I would not consider anything less than the low thirties.
If you need to sell your Dakota give me a shout.

Best of Luck

IMO, no way are you going to get low 30's for a small block car. NOT in this money tight economy.
Maybe 10-15 if your lucky.

Looks like a clean car, but not matching numbers and not a T/A or R/T so maybe 20K

I believe the car has aluminum heads on it, and it is very road worthy. Clinton drove it about 450 miles or more over to my house with no issues. It is a very clean car and dependable.  Not sure of a price range, but if a person was wanting a dependable performance car, this one would fit the bill

Thanks for the response.  Here is the story in brief:

I got married last year and became an "instant dad" for two boys.  I love my car but now that I have two young boys that like to play rough (like most boys), I fear that the car may get some battle scars.  Just the thought of the car getting badly scratched drives me crazy.  In a way I feel that I would be happier if the car went to a good home and I did not have to see what happens to it.  I am just wierd that way.  I do not drive it very much anyway because of the crazy drivers on the road.

I just need some thoughts on what you guys think I should do.  Should I sell it?  If not, then what are other options?

P.S.  Thanks for the pics Moparal.  Yes, you are right it has aluminum heads (around 400 hp) and is very dependable.

if that`s the reason for selling,  just go out with your boys and the car , and enjoy the heck out of it....  it wont start rotting from rough play.  If it does get scratched, have it repainted when the boys are a little bigger.
the more you fear scratches, the more it will get scratched....  :2cents:

Unless it's a financial necessity, I wouldn't sell it.

It's not #'s matching, nor is it it optioned in any kind of desirable way (as mentioned, not an R/T, Hemi, etc), so the money you would get would be limited. Despite what you might have spent on it, I'd say you'd maybe get $15k for it. $20k if it was immaculate - but realise that '70 #'s matching R/T's are going for $30k, and the big dollars are only going for those that truly deserve it.

I'd say use it more - be that Dad with the cool cars. Use that car as a bond and teach them about it. Tell them if they look after it, then one day it'll be theirs.

I would say 15K sounds about right.  Market for these cars is not what it was.  I have a 318 auto converted to a 440 4 speed,  Clean body.  Interior needs a little help.  I figure it's worth about 15.

All we have to do is wait out this "Obamanation" crap, and things will get back to some sort of "Normal" on the prices of collector cars..Anybody trying to sell a NICE car now is looking at ALOT of lowballers(Flippers) using the economy to their advantage and trying to get your stuff for next to nothing and trying to sell for double, sometimes triple what they paid for it...

Keep the car, and teach those boys some respect for Dad's stuff.....They scratch your car, take away their video games/computer/phones/etc...

Keep it if you can.

Just remember, it is a 1971 Challenger and they just don't make them anymore.

As said before, beware of the vulchers preying that want it for nothing.

Thanks for all of the comments.  After talking it over with the wife several times, SHE will not let me sell it.  So I guess that means I am keeping it.

Maybe get a car cover for it so it stays a little safer when the little ones walk by it.

But mostly enjoy it  :cooldancing:
