Mounting a 70-71 bumper on a 72 fish
« on: May 18, 2010 - 07:46:02 AM »
I wanted to confirm the number of bolt holes etc on a 70-71 fish bumper.

I have a 72 fish, but it has the older bumper (no slots)....but I have some "extra" holes....two I think were drilled by someone for lights maybe...but two others concern me.....

Anyone have a real good picture of a properly mounted 70-71 bumper on a 72?

Here is how mine is mounted....(colrs/brightness blown out to try and clarify the holes better)

The holes on top of the bumper have been drilled. No fish bumpers mounted there. I slid mine in.And only run the center brackets to shave some weight.

It looks like you have bolts on the top side of the bumper too? (NEar the slots) ?  Or is that just a reflection?

Another question -- Year One is showing      a 70-71 bumper , and then seperate part numbers for the 72 and then the 73 and 74.

According to this link , all 72 fish used the late 71 bumper....

 http://books.google.com/books?id=M-hmfvq1rB0C&pg=PA203&lpg=PA203&dq=barracuda+bumper&source=bl&ots=pOke2HzMqx&sig=O71dBW15Oq4YcP7E5Qj5ZS2ESEA&hl=en&ei=c2zzS_qMKIGClAeXpKniDA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=6&ved=0CC8Q6AEwBTgK#v=onepage&q=barracuda%20bumper&f=false

.....so how do I know if I have a 70-early 71 or a late 71 bumper?  :dunno:

I have no slots.....did the late 71-72  bumper have slots??????

70-71 have no slots...they use a hook on the jack.

Robert's picture is just reflection...no holes on top.

Sure there are holes on top. I think all fish mounted there. I meant it looks like yours are in the wrong spot. I put bumper bolts in the holes I wasn't using. Sorry if i confused ya'.    I think the only read diff. is the slotts er no slotts.  :clueless:

There are differences in the hole locations.

When I changed my front I had to weld extensions on the brackets to reach the bumper holes.

I don't know what year bumper I've got - I picked it up second hand.

I can get photos later if it helps.

You can buy the correct bracket @ EBAY , the Roseville guy has them. I found an original 70 bracket set on auction for $100 last year. They are lighter and only use two bolts to attach to the frame. The 1974 chrome fit, but only two bolts line up the top ones are for looks. Plus I removed the inner bumper for a 30# total savings. They adjust the bumper closer to the grill.
