Arrggghhhh!! - Fuel Fitting- Update Fixed!
« on: May 19, 2010 - 08:49:45 PM »
Man...I am trying to finish up a new fuel system on my cuda, new pump, lines, filters and regulator, everything from the tank to the carb!  I have one fitting at the carb inlet that does not want to seal. :stomp:

I looked at the carb fitting and there is a little ridge all the way around the sealing surface on the inverted flare.  Could this be the problem?

I remade the line once just to make sure it was not the problem, and that helped a bit, I alos have tightend the crap out of the fitting, but it is still leaking a bit.

I think I may try a new carb fitting and see if that works! :dunno:

Any tips or suggestions.

This is my first fab project and I really want to use it....but at this point I may just scrap it and go with some premade lines.

Any cracks in the flares? I usually cut the tubing, file it flat, and use a countersink by hand to deburr the tubing before flaring it. Haven't had any leaks with mine. Everything needs to be as smooth as possible. You said you had a ridge, on the actual carb fitting?

No cracks that I can see.

Yes there is a ridge on the carb inlet fitting...I am guessing that is my issue.

most fuel lines are cheaply made & do not seal well , but you said you remade the flare so the ridge could eb the problem

Since it wasn't mentioned in the previous posts, are you using a single or double flare? on the carb fittings (from what I see in the picture) it should be a double flare...

Yes a double flare was used through out!

Do the lines go on straight? If they are in a bind or at an odd angle sometimes they will leak. Just a thought.

That looks sweet.

Wish I had the tools and the willpower to red do the  trans lines.

I'm still  using the same fuel line from the pump to the rubber hose that I bent by hand 15 years ago, lol
