727 in drive upshift @45 mph , down **** @ 20 mph
« on: May 20, 2010 - 10:10:10 PM »
In drive trany shift into drive around 45 mph and will downshift around 20 mph. manuel shifting is fine and seems to be bang on,Never had this trany apart, wondering if maybe a shift kit is in this trans or something maybe sticking in the valve body, the tranny sat for a few yrs full of its fluids and was supposed to be rebuilt with a 2800 stall converter. any thoughts on this upshift downshift?    Thxs

If i pull away in drive, trans will up shift  1st & 2nd ok  it will not go into drive until iam @ 40-45 mph, now still in drive, when i reduce speed to around 20 mph it will down shift by itself into second gear, speed up again to 40-45 mph it will go into drive, its not sluggage or any thing like that, manuel shifting good in first 2nd gear will scretch tires and into drive fine but iam after surpassing the 45 mph by then. just want to make sure every thing is fine,,thought maybe passing ing gear leakage may be set a tad back to far, or shift kit may have been installed or valve body something done like that, to the way of its behavour or responce, i did not have the pan off or looked inside of this tranny because  the guy i got it of didn't know to much on the internal stuff but said it was working fine.the tran sat in a heated barn for awhile i put new fluid in it, and will be changing the filter soon  the touque converter suppose to be a little higher then a stock converter, its 440. thxs tactransman looking forward to your repley ..

It sounds like the kick down linkage is set too tight or the geometry is wrong.
