I need some advise please,,,, put the starter up tonite. And I can't get the bolt to thead. The starter does not seem to sit quite all the way, its like its a few thousandths high!!  :clueless:  So I threaded the bolt through the trans facing front just to check. Look at the starter, you can see the mark from the bolt. Do I have to grind a liitle off the block, it so where exactly?? I dont think I'd need much but there's not lots of room either...   :feedback:

I need more more clarity on where the issue is , it sounds like the starter is either hitting the block , or the bolt holes do not line up

Neil, the top bolt hole is a hair off. I cant move it in (towards the block) even a hair closer. Of course I cant see anything when the starters in there either, I guessing its touching the block somewhere...

I had to grind/sand the opening in the block to get mine to fit, not a lot, just enough to get the casting "flash" area to be the same height as the surrounding area of the starter opening. Let me see if I have a picture....yeah - here you go. I don't think the starter pocket is a precision tolerance machining operation. It must be just casting differences, this 66 440 block needed clearancing, the 73 440 block in my car did not.

70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

 THANKS FOR POSTING THE PIC!

I've been thinking all day about what to do tonite. I even compared the new one to the old (ma) starter before I came in this morning. It seems just a little wider. I'm hoping all I need is the DREMEL, and not the angle grinder.  :dunno: All I seem to need os a few thousandths.... stay tuned!
