hey all,
here's the latest images/plan for my car.
thought i'd post it here and see what you guys think.
i'm leaning more to a streetfighter feel, but want to do something different than just a matte black, caged, cuda.

at this stage i'm hoping to utilise the facilities at my work place to do all the work myself.
the ultimate plan would be to strip (including cutting off the quarters and roof) and dip the car, then seam weld the body and replace the roof.
i'd laser scan the shell, and construct the roll cage in CAD, farming out the bends and tubing to a specialist company. then i assemble the jigsaw bits.
i'd 3D model new flared fenders and quarters, then mill them out of foam, and pull molds off to form fiberglass parts (ultimately carbon fiber).

drive train: 440sb, 6 pack efi, A833 4 speed with GV overdrive.
hotchkis suspension parts, and a panhard.
mostly stock interior apart from cage
still undecided about wheels and tires. i want to stick with 15" but may go to 17". either way i'll be aiming for the widest rims and rubber i can fit under those flared guards.

the dump pipes behind the front wheels will be functional. custom built cutouts/valves will shunt the exhaust from shorty headers to either the dumps or full exhaust and mufflers with turndowns behind the diff.

paint at this stage is a custom satin black/gunmetal with a metallic pearl in blue/green. meant to feel like shark skin (the shark aesthetic is something that runs through the car)

the number 28 (from akira for those who know it, and also as a homage the 42 and 48 trans am cudas) is on one side only, along with the exhaust warning graphic. not sure about the lettering on the tires, but if i do do it it will be a custom logo, not goodyear eagle.

so what do you guys and girls think?

I have been looking at the hood tach lately, figured on a gm as they seem to flow better. Then again I have only played with the gm's. Havn't touched a direct connection hood tach. I assume direct would be the way you would go?
Or would you just get a custom piece?

The arrow scoops are cool also. would you be making them functional?
I am curious as to what you would use the arrow scoop on the hood for?
Obviously you would be using the ones on the front fenders for brake cooling.

I like the duck tail. Looks like you sloped it down a good bit. Would you custom that?

Aaron, ya got mad skills dude.
I am sure you will miss driving/enjoying your car once you do tear it down.
Personally, I enjoy the way you have your car built out, but that it just my taste.
The widebody is a nice way to execute the car. It takes on a new look. Done tastefully, it would be rally dramatic.
Whatever you do, you will need to post your project.

BTW, when you do scan your car, let me know. MUhahahhaa (wicked evil laugh)

one major speedbump is the hobbit film, it will be taking over our facility soon potentially leaving no room/time for my car project.
also i haven't had a chance to talk to the boss about the car lately, but he's been keen in the past...

hunter, i thought i'd make a custom hood tach, with modern electronic internals, and a nice green glow to match the dash lighting.
the naca duct on the hood is potentially for a powersteering cooler, it would go on the other side, but i couldn't be bothered changing that rough illustration.
all ducts will be functional.
and yep, the trunk spoiler would be custom, along with a custom rear tail panel. either 70 style tail lights, or 67-69 cuda tail panel.

It will be ready for it's own movie Arron, but I know you would not let it be destroyed.

Arron has been a member here for just a little over two years, and he moderately makes post,............but when he does like his car he has given it thought and consideration. And his planning clearly reflects his talents, I'm an old traditionalist, but I'd like to see this conception when completed, but pictures will suffice

I am in full support of black 71 AARs.

The side exhaust was something I contemplated, but I didn't want to do a typical AAR and I didn't really have any good ideas for a custom fabrication that I wanted. I thought of doing something similar to the Viper where the exhaust leaves near the front of the rear tire out of the body, but I wasn't set enough on it to go forward.

The exhaust coming out near the front fender would look great with the right fabrication and materials.

Another thing I've seen is having two sets of exhaust. Two coming out the rear with mufflers and two coming out of the side dumped from the headers with a switch to choose which you want to be using.

These are pretty hot on a 68/69 Charger custom.

Hey Aaron! geez I just read how you were planning on cutting up the ol hotrod and thought - build another out of a basket case that you could get for cheap from the states' one that has no title then you just change the plates over if you wanted to drive it on the street occationally ??
