got offered a lot more then my car is worth.......
« on: May 26, 2010 - 01:10:56 AM »
So im just hanging out with one of my buddies today and one of his friends stops and starts talking to us. My buddy introduced us and he asked to go for a ride in my car. After the ride he asked me if it was forsale and i said no and he says "well would you take 50k for it"? I said "well i might consider 50K but id really have to think about it" (thinking in my head that this is just some kid who could never come up with that kind of money). so anyways he left and i just was laughing to myself about it and my buddy asked what was so funny and i said "that kid just offered me 50k for my car". My buddy looked at me and said "he was serious, and he has the money" So now im really thinking about it. With 50K i could pay for my college plus have some left to start on another car, i ran it buy my dad and he said for 50k, sell it and we will build an even more bad ass one. But i just got this bad feeling that im going to be driving one day and see it rolled over in a ditch or wrapped around a telephone pole with a half drank bottle of whiskey spilled in the floor.

You will have to make a decision, if you can make good money and are not attached to your car then sell it and start another project. Don't use the money to fix the fraud though, that is un-forgivable.   :stirpot:
If the worst happens as you described it won't be your fault, he probably would do it with another car anyway, not that we want to see another MOPAR damaged.

If the actually came through with the $50K, it souns like a deal. Unless their is some sentimental value, your dad is right.  Build another "even more bas ass".

Money talks, BS walks! If he really has the cash sell it-I`d sell my Barracuda for that much and I`m pretty attached to it having owned it since `82 and did all the work restoring it myself.

I guess it depends how attached you are to the car.  For me . . . if someone offered me alot of cash for my convertible, I would probably sell it.  But the hardtop is my first car that I bought in highschool 30 years ago and I don't think I will ever part with it.  It is like one of my kids . . not for sale.

Well I guess if it was a million dollars I may reconsider . . . .  :money:

If $50 thousand will get you out of college without a huge debt load, grab the money and thank God for the chance.  It is, after all, just a car.  I guess though, it depends on your financial position.  For some that much money is a life changer, for others it is almost pocket change.  You have to decide where you are, and how much nostalgia is worth.

This is definitely a tough one.  It would certainly feel great to finish up college with little to no debt, but what do you think the likelihood is that you will ever be able to build yourself another car like the one you have now?  As many, many people on here will attest to, the world is filled with good intentions, but when push comes to shove, and you're working full time, have a family, have kids, etc, will you have the time and money for a new project, or to buy a finished car?

It would not make much sense to me to sell the car, pay off your debt, then jump back right in to debt to fund a new project.  I guess the real question is, do you already have a plan in place to pay off your loans?  If so, then I would stick with that plan and keep the car.  If you feel like you need the money, and could get by without another car for a long time, if at all, then sell.

Best of luck on whatever you decide.

In the end it's for you to decide. I think I would agree with the rest and let it go. If your college age you have your whole life to do another. If you pass and then decide in a few years to sell would you get a chance like this again? This kind of opportunity don't come along often. SELL!

I'm still paying off my 5th year of college (my scholorship ran out after 4 years) and it's been 5 years. It has helped being deployed with the military, but if my cuda was finished and someone offered much more than what it is worth, I would take it. There are other cars out there.

If 50K is way more than you feel the car is worth, take the money and go to college.   :2cents:

My buddy looked at me and said "he was serious, and he has the money"

This may be true, but whether or not he decides to follow through is still a big IF.

But i just got this bad feeling that im going to be driving one day and see it rolled over in a ditch or wrapped around a telephone pole with a half drank bottle of whiskey spilled in the floor.

If this happens, offer the insurance company .05 cents on the dollar for it, get it back, and you have a new old project.
