Melted Holley Site Plugs

I recently purchased some inexpensive plastic site plugs for my Holleys so I could check and adjust the float level.  After around 10 minutes of running the engine and adjusting the floats I removed the plugs.  When I removed them I found they were melted and disintegrated at the end with particulate inside the bowl, a real mess.  Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before?

Sounds like the wrong type of plastic was used. Apparently, inexpensive means "wrong" in this case. Bummer. Often, modern "gasoline" eats things like this, and THEN we find out that there is some chemical in there that was not, when the part was first produced.

Yep had that happen to me too. I just went back to the brass screws.

Well, Holley says only use them for float adjustment but I woulda thought 10 minutes would be fine.

 Matter of fact, I believe I used them for a couple of weeks when I installed my street avenger carb.

Mine have been in for a year...no leaks or issues.

That's weird, I've run the moroso clear plugs on every holley I've owned for years on end with no problems.

Thanks for the link, FJ5.  I guess I should have done a search on it first.  Sounds like I'm not the only one experiencing this problem.

I've had a couple break when installing or removing them so went back to brass.  The consequences of a plug breaking when the hood was closed scared me.

I agree.  Not worth the risk at all.

Hmmm I just put a set on the Moroso plugs in my carb.  Maybe I will pull them out...

Not sure about the Moroso plugs.  The ones I had trouble with were Holley brand.

I put in plastic ones 3 years back.... I'll be out in the garage soon. I'm gona check mine......

I'm using the Mr. Gasket ones and one is getting cloudy. Out they go.

I need to make a correction here.  The plugs I had trouble with were, in fact, Moroso (P/N: 65226) and not the Holley brand, as I stated (in error) above.  Jegs sells 3 different one piece plastic site plugs.  Cheapest are Moroso, then Mr. Gasket, then Holley.  All look similar.  I do have a set of the more expensive Holley's but am reluctant to even try them, as they look very similar to the Moroso's. 

Just wanted to correct my error on the Holley brand.
