Electric Fuel Pump

I was thinking of putting in an electric fuel pump. Do people normally connect them with a low oil pressure shut off, or just to the ignition?

depends what you want to do , a low oil pressure kil is a good safety , you can also insert a kill switch so the car will run out of fuel in 200 feet , use a relay in the circuit though

No point hooking the fuel pump up to the idiot light switch because the engine still runs for 30 seconds to empty the fuel bowl even after oil pressure is lost. Better off to hook one contact of a dual contact switch up to the ignition and have a pushbutton to bypass that interlock during starting. This way will see the engine shutdown as soon as oil pressure is lost.

Noise would be a problem. Exhaust note is ok but not fuel pump whine. You find your pump noise annoying?

I have a similar Summit one and it is pretty loud, but so is my exhaust. Also that is what the stereo is there for. It is bearable.

Carter pumps aren't much better in the noise department.

My blue pump was louder than my 3" exhaust,  never had that problem with the carter style pumps. The mallory pumps are quieter as well.

Yes,  the Mallory pump can't even be heard with your engine off.

Hmmmm....do you know if the 140 serise pump is alos that quiet?

There are about 10 Mallory electronic fuel pumps under $300!  Can anybody help with picking one?

The link provided above to the 4110 is probably the most popular one as it does not require a return line or a regulator.  If one is building a serious race car, then there may be a need for a higher volume pump, but, in most cases, this one should do the trick.

The oil pressure cutoff switch that you want to use is from a Chevy Vega applcation. It has 2 poles, and will immediately cut off the fuel when oil pressure goes away.

An oil pressure cutoff only works on EFI or when the ignitions wired to it, and that can cause some odd issues if you have power steering or power brakes. The Mallory 140 pump is the quietest one I've used before. I also like the Carters but they are not as quiet as Mallory. Holleys you'll know when it's on...lol. All should be wired through a properly sized relay and wires.
