It turned out that the shifter mech was hooked up correctly, just had to find the correct "place" for the shifter rod to be tightened down. Then, I had to let some out on the kick down cable, which meant I needed to cut some of the housing away to give me the extra slack to allow it to shift at a lower speed. Now if I can get some of the other bugs worked out!
