Distributor cap and Rotor question
« on: June 10, 2010 - 07:43:19 PM »
How long should they last?  I had mine off the other day to change some timing events and noticed they are pretty beat up.  The rotor was pretty scorched up and the terminals on the cap were in tough shape as well.  Both were good quality parts with Brass contacts.  They have possibly 5-6K miles on them.  I have an MSD 6AL ignition with MP distributor fwiw.

I had an Accel Distributor Cap and Rotor (Dual Points) go 29 years on a summer only driven car!

But for what it's worth, I would replace them yearly.

MSD's are pretty tough on caps and rotors with their multi spark and high voltage.  I only get a few thousand miles on mine too, also using MSD.  I drill a hole in the back of dist. cap to help venting.

Hmm, I guess it varies!LOL  The cap had a vent BTW, so I guess I'll just swap 'em out asap?
