Got the body work blues
« on: June 12, 2010 - 01:50:10 AM »
AAAh, bodywork can get old after a while. Hard to keep motivated week after week, day after day. Sometimes you just got to step away and take a short vacation from it. Well that's where I'm at. Stopped for a bit till the hunger comes back. I'll be back soon on it I'm sure.

I know the feeling. I have bodywork, wiring, interior, and engine jobs all on the go at the same time. When I get tired of one I just move to something a little different. If I stop working on the car then my wife always seems to find something for me to do that's a lot less desirable than working on the car

1973 Plymouth Duster 340/auto (Making it Panther Pink for the wife)
2006 Honda Civic Hybrid (It doesn't save gas, it just diverts it to the Cuda/Challenger)

That happened to me a couple  of times . Being my first try at doing body work I way under estimated the amount of labor it took to get my car to paint.  At one point I just let it sit for a month or so I got so burned out with it. But when you get to see your car for the first time all shiny and new looking  you tend to forget real fast all the aggrivation that you went thru.    :woo:

Mike,
I feel your pain.  I've been wrestling with the body on my Cuda for about two years now.  There's been weeks or months when I couldn't do any thing (family obligations, work, a deployment, etc...).  It seems like I'm going to be working on the body forever.  But I always feel a sense of accomplishment when I am able to get something done, no matter how small the task or how small the area I worked.

Sometimes stepping away for a little while is a good idea.  Gives you a chance to recharge your batteries.  Try not to get discouraged.  There is light at the end of the tunnel!!!  :2thumbs:

Mike I feel your pain! Its really hard to stay motovated, I'm on my steering gear upgrade since the end of march... the neighbors want to know when the "green car" is coming out..  Sometimes you just gotta take a little break, I know life gets in the way too! Hang in there buddy the final result will be worth it.  :2thumbs:

What works for me is taking a little break and then come back and look at a bunch of projects in the body work stages.  That really gets me pumped when I see how many other members have been right were we are and what they were able to to do.

I know what you're going through, I just finished mine yesterday.  I'll prime it next week.  I'll post some pictures if I have time.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

I'm sanding right now. well over 1000 hrs. .The Charger is very close. I gave up like 3 times. This place kept me going.  I have a muscle car clock,Every hr. it makes an engine noise. Brings a smile to my face at some of the worst times. Keep remembering how far you've come. Every crappy minute is worth the look on that little kids face when he sees you cruise by.

Yep it's a ton of work, your moving a lot faster than I did & I stayed on mine full time whenever I had an hour to get out there, doing it three or four times didn't help me much   :'( but after the body was pretty much done came my worst time, work slowed up & i couldn't buy the interior, waited almost 3 years, now it's just about complete & I can't get collector car ins cause I can't put the car in my garage, so hang in there once you make a few pieces all shinny & new you'll be ready for the next 1000 hours of wet sanding & buffing! ;D Rich.

It was nice to take a break this week end from bodywork. It's been 95 here so it would have been a sweaty job that might scarifice. Fishing today on the Ocean was a good getaway from it.

Think I'll switch to painting the Hemi and get everything on.

Mike,

If you still have your arms on then keep going.  I think my arms have fell off at least three times from sanding so much. :roflsmiley:

Hang in there...  If I lived in CA I would be there to help.

Sometimes it's not so much as the doing the work itself as it is the sun beating down on me. The car is located against a bright white wall and a fence with no shade.

So when I spend 6-8 hours at it, I get cooked. I have a big umbrella to shade me but can't be under it all the time. Backyard I can't build a real garage there. I'm limited on what I can modify the area to make it more comfortable. When Sept-Nov mos. are here, I'm full steam.

As far as members here that actually visted over the last 3 years only 2 have come by. Challenger500 lives pretty close. We do talk once in a while and get together from time to time.
