4 speeds and overdrives

ok looking for advice of what belhousing to buy. What I have is an overdrive 4 speed that I got from the local upick, it cane from a early 80's 6 cyl pickup. it has the 5.125 bearing retainer. What I need is a belhousing for the 383 I want to put it behind. Does anybody know what parts I need? Who should I talk to? Thanks for any help. rusty70cuda

Finding a bellhousing to match that is not the way to go.  You can either replace the bearing retainer with the one for the 308 bearing or chuck yours up in a lathe and turn it down.

thats what I was wondering I believe Brewers sells that IBR for the 308 bearing but I was reading a tech article and that one is for the hemi/440 18 spline trans. I would have to use the larger throw out bearing as well. Is this correct? any comments welcome.

Yes, you do have the 308 bearing.  All the 18 spline transmissions came with 308, but it came in 23 spline transmissions also.  The 18 spline retainer will not work because the input seal is larger.

You need to purchase a stock RB/B bellhousing with 4.80" hole or machine it out to 4.80" then  machine the input retainer off your tranny out to 4.80" clearance fit. On the 833OD you cannot go any smaller.
