Rear end sagging???
« on: June 13, 2010 - 04:34:10 PM »
I have a 71 chally r/t and I think the rear end is a bit low. I know the previous owner lowered the torsion bars in front, but the rear also looks low. Cranking up the front is one thing on my to do list, but the rear would need new leafs. Could someone give me a height measurement fron the ground to the center of the rear wheelwell so I could compare it. The car has 275/60 R15 tires and the wheel well is 24" fron the ground. Any help would be appreciated....

Mine was trunk empty, tank almost full. May be time for some new springs.....

Found these while looking around today. What do you think?

I bought mine from Espo. They can even sell you springs with a 1" or 2" over stock height lift if you really want to raise it up.

Quite a few of us have used Espo springs and things.  They will make a pair for you in stock height or raise or lower the car.  I personally find their +1 inch spring to be just right for the basically stock look without the slightly "saggy bottom" look the stock springs had.  They are made of quality materials and won't "go flat" after a couple years.  do a search for Espo, or spring height and you will get tons of info with comparison pics.

I would just call them to find pricing, but this is their website.

I definitely raised it up. I wanted to see the whole tire back there.

Is that 1" or closer to 2"

The center of my wheelwell is 24" from the ground. I am trying to find what stock would be so I can order +1 or +2 for the springs.

Please remember that Chrysler never specified a rear ride height on the E bodies, so actual measurments can be all over the board. In their installed position, the stock leaf springs should vary from almost flat, to only 2" of arch. So unless your having problems with wheel bounce, spring wrap up, or bottoming out, your springs may be exactly where they should be.

I tried to upload pic to show you what I was talking about and I got an error. I just PM'd a moderator. Hopefully I can upload it later today.

I think you might want to go with a 1" lift on your springs. Here I measured 14" from center to the wheel lip for reference.

I just measured--11 3/4" from the center of the center cap to the wheel well. Did you go with +1" or +2" to get that?

I went 2" over, but I am hesitant to recommend going that far if you don't want to see the entire tire like I do. I don't know what your taste is. I have 15" wheels 255/60 series, so your tires will be taller than mine. Something to think about...

You can see in my first pic that there is a gap between the tire and wheel well lip.
