Electric Pump-Filter before the pump
« on: June 16, 2010 - 03:08:15 PM »
As we are on the topic of electric pumps, how many of you are using a filter before the pump other than the sock on the pick up in the tank?

I ask because the Holley on my current project died (Thank God!) and I am getting ready to install a new pump.  The Holley did not seem to have any trash in the pump and the old pick up sock does not look bad either even tho I am going to install a new pick up while I am messing with this end of it.

I do have a large cartridge type filter that I can use...just trying to save some effort on fabbing brackets to hang stuff down to the bottom of the tank... :)

if you have the stock sock filter on the pick up tube I would not use another filter before the pump

I'm more concerned about trash fromt he pump getting to the carb, so I use the largest filter I can fit (usually the Fram HPG-1 canister-type) just after the pump. The sock will give the pump more than enough protection.

Per instructions for my pump it said to use the filter before the pump.   :dunno:

I have a 100 micron filter before the pump and 10 micron filter after the pump as per Aeromotive.

This is what I had in mind to do...particularly since I had already rigged the cannister where I could use it after the pump when the Holley was working...
