Morals won't pay the bills as I've learned the hard way, but I wouldn't change that fact for anything. Yeah, it's really rough at times, but the peace of mind that it brings in the end makes it all worthwhile. Just keep it up and best of luck to you.

Update - House goes on the market on Tuesday. Wife & 2 of the kids are heading down to Florida to stay with friends and look for a place to live. Meanwhile I'll stay here and work at the shop on customer vehicles and my 70 Challenger R/T (which I plan on selling as soon as possible to stay afloat).

Had a fellow Mopar Nut swing by the shop yesterday and asked me to paint 2 of his cars. Looks like I'll have plenty to do while I wait for the house to sell...

Also, the contact from my old place of work that offered to put a word in for me with my old company's competitor said she spoke with them and they are very interested. They asked her to get my resume for them...

Quick update - House has been on market for 45 days - not a single looker :swear: Guess our price is too high  :swear: :stomp:  Nothing ever came of sending my resume to my former employer's competition  :banghead:  We've decided to put a deadline on selling the house or just rolling it into our Bankruptcy when/if we convert to a Chapter 7.  We are giving the house until November to sell.  I do not want to have to deal with cold weather trying to work in my shop.

On that note, I have been busy in my shop.  I finished painting the '67 Satellite, did a 73 Dart for a 19 year-old college kid and his Dad, and am currently working on a 72 Charger SE for a guy from Ohio.  And, I've got a 91 Camaro RS coming in next week for a quickie.

Going to start clearing off my Challenger today and plan on having it ready to sell mid-late September

Nice work, Gary.

Re: the house, I can tell you that my house in NC has been on the market since January. Only bite was a shark trying to get it at half price.

Well, another 3 weeks and still no lookers at the house.  Dropped the price another 5K but that has not done anything yet.  Realtor says the market has DIED in the past 2 months.  Just my f'n luck!

Well, the good part about it is I have started to work on my Challenger R/T again.  Got customer 2 cars in the shop but am waiting on parts for one and the other is just waiting for me to shoot it now.  Money is EXTREMELY tight but I am really looking forward to moving back home soon.  My wife & I have basically decided that if the house does not sell, we will have to convert our Chapter 13 to a Chapter 7 and roll the house into it.  Alsso, got turned down for unemployment because my former employer told them that I "Quit rather than comply with a reasonable request."  Feels like a kick in the gut but I guess they consider giving  up ones reputation and integrity as a reasonable request nowadays.

Obviously I don't know all the details here, Gary, but I can tell you that I had a somewhat similar situation many years ago which I fought and won. My employer had accused me of stealing, and told the employment commission that I was fired for improper actions or something like that. I challenged the ruling and asked them to produce evidence (obviously there was none, and years later it turned out that the comptroller had been embezzling for years until he finally took all he could get and headed for the Caribbean). I won.

Whatever else happens, good luck.

I agree with ChallengerGary, a similar thing happened with my when she was laid off from her job two years ago.  They even paid her severence, but when she tried to apply for unemployment they said she was fired for cause.  She told the Employment Office who handles unemployment that the credit union she used to work for had a history of denying legitimate claims, and that she had not been given anything but positive reviews, that the SVP she reported up through told her she was doing a good job just weeks prior to her being let go, so when the arbitrator asked for proof of why she was let go for cause of course they couldn't provide anything.  It sounds like you have a similar situation and no way I'd just let them get away with screwing you out of unemployment.  Get the folks at the TX employment office on your side and good luck!

Thanks for the words of encouragement.  I am fighting the ruling by the Texas Work Force Commission but have been told it is taking at least 4-6 weeks before they even look at an appeal.  I wrote a nice letter to the Commission explaining what had happened and included my letter to the President of the Company asking to be let go (which they agreed to) plus an email in which the VP of the Company said that he thought my last day should be "the sooner the better."  I further added that this was creating a hostile work environment for me.  We'll see.

In the meantime, my wife and I have set a November "deadline" for our house to sell.  We really don't want to add to the long list of "Real Estate Owner" by the banks but don't see much of a choice unless it sells.

Gary, I hate to say this, but the kicker may have been that you asked to be let go. I understand your position, and I've been there, but I'm concerned that the EC may consider that to be a voluntary separation.

Good luck man. I'm in mostly the same position with my house. I asked the bank for several different kinds of help and had them blow me off, until I said "Well, I can't pay for it any more" at which point they took a little more notice. I'm trying to do a Deed in Lieu, which if it works will make the house go away, at least.
