I think that is a best move IMOP. Yep the HEMI would be way nice kool etc, but a stroker 383 easy 500HP, very reliable, less weight, looks stock and will blow the doors off most everything and yet is still easy to work on too.

As I said in the original post. The car is a BS23N code car.. 383. I want it to be somewhat correct even if it is not numbers matching.

I really like the stock but deadly look the FAST guys have. I'm sure it takes quite a few carefully spent dollars to keep a motor looking dead stock and run 10s and 11s. Not to mention chassis tuning.

Well the six pack would be cool except I'm most likely going to go with a shaker hood. It will be hidden under all that "shaker stuff". Ill probably sneak in a FAST EZ EFI system under there but dont tell anyone..LOL :misbehaving:

I bought my Hemi block and heads last year, just for once in my life I want a Mopar
with a Hemi engine. Since I can't afford a complete I will do it this way.
My Charger has a 440 stroker so that will be the HP car, the chally will be build for cruise and sound. :grinyes:

ok so I think i'm going to go the budget route and use a 383 but stuff either a 440source 438 or 496 kit in it.

Give it a stock sleeper look with steel wheels.

My 70 Roadrunner is an original 383 auto car and I'm 90% sure its going to get a pistol grip 4 speed (have virtually all the parts gathered), but I've gone back & forth on the engine choice.  I actually ran a six pack on the car back in the 70's so for me building a stroker 383 with six pack would be putting it back visually to the way I ran it as back in the day.  But, I always said I'd put a hemi in it some day and if I don't do it this go round I probably won't bother.  So I've been gathering parts to do both and at some point have to decide which direction.  From what I've read if I went stroker 383 I'd probably go 438 as I really like the way the car revs with a 383 and wouldn't want to totally lose that.  If I go hemi, I'll go at least 472 stroker or a 528 since massive torque is what these cars are all about.  Decisions, decisions....

Let us know how you end up going and how pleased you are.  I'll especially be interested if you stay with the 383 as that seems to be the option I keep getting pulled back to.

Shaker Hood with 383 emblems (to come later as funds permit) AAR hood will have to stay till then.
438 stroker to appear as close as possible as a close to stock 383.

Sounds cool.  I'll be waiting to hear your impressions on the 438.  I'm not sure what they call it, but I'm planning on a 'period correct' look for the Roadrunner so any hopping up has to look like it could have been there since the 70's.  I'm going back & forth whether I'm going to go for a similar look with my 318 Barracuda or a truly 'stock' look like you're planning.  Look is the key word though, anything I can hide is fair game.  Good luck with yours.

A Hemi is a Hemi, sure a 440+6 will outrun a stock 426 Hemi but it is still a Hemi and with the wow look and earcandy.
I had a 6-pack on a 440 but never got i tuned in right so i sold it.
I could never afford a 426 so im building a 392 Hemi of a 5.7L Hemi that i bought for $300. So if you dont have the money the 5.7L to a 392 is cheap way to get a "Hemi"
