Speedometer rebuilding for a Rallye cluster
« on: June 24, 2010 - 09:43:26 AM »
I have 3 speedometers now with bad gears that drive the odometer\trip tick.   I e-mailed a couple of speedometer repair places trying to find the gears. The 2 long plastic yellow ones by where the cable plugs in.

Has anyone had any luck with any company that makes these gears? What Co.?

I'm thinking of going electronic but those are really expensive.

Are you talking about the transmission gear, or is your speedo broken?  As far as parts, check with Greg at www.rt-eng.com.  They did mine, along with the tach, and they work great.

Try Brewers or Passon if you need the speedo gear that goes into the transmission.  If I read it correctly, Shelby's problem is with the inner workings of his gauge, which will probably need a rebuild, whereas it sounds like you just need the correct toothed gear that goes with your rear gear and rear tire size.

My Speedo gears are bad. The ones inside the speedometer.

Kmyles, you just need to change the gear in the trans to make yours show the correct speed. I have a boxx of trans gears that I install whenever I change the rear 8-3/4 gears. Then I drive down a 10 mile section of highway keeping it at 6o mph. You should go exactly 1 mile every minute and after 10 miles the odometer should be dead on. If not, more teeth slows it down, fewer teeth speeds it up.
