Mopar Nats in Ohio...PRICEY!!!
« on: June 25, 2010 - 09:11:34 AM »
Holy mackeral!  I was starting to think about doing the Mopar Nationals in Ohio in August.

The entry fee is $65 if you register by June 30 and $80 after!

Thats just too steep IMHO

$40 at Carlisle I thought was steep.....but WOW....this takes the cake.

Dont the organizers of these events realize that the cars being there is the draw and reason many people visit and spend money?

It been that much for a few years . . . now remember that is for 3 days and includes admission for 2 people.  Really if you break it down, thats only $10.83 a day per person.

But if you add in your hotel, gas, food, beer, golf cart and all the parts you buy . . . it can be expensive.

Yeah, but in comparison to Carlisle, its a huge difference...

Maybe we'll do that one next year in lieu of carlsisle.......but not this year.....

I accually think it pretty reasonable.  There's a lot to do there.  I always bring my own cooler which saves a lot of money.  The only food I usually buy is lemonade and a pretzle.  I've never been to Carlisle but think the lack of drag racing at the event would be a downer.  Hearing the cars on the track is a big part of the whole Mopar Nat's experience. :2cents:

I'll say having the track right there adds to it all...So maybe chalk that $80 up to added ambiance.

go every year,,haven't took the car yet but there is lots to do and the drag racing is always good,,there is a campground within 15 minutes of it ,,always a good time at the nats,,so I actually  think it pretty reasonable.

The only negative I will say is if you DO bring a car.

At Carlisle everything is laid out nicely according to makes and years, so you know where to park. At the Nats, it's everyone for themselves. Park wherever...  The stress meter just went up a notch.

LOL Ok, I guess I am just a cheap bastard then.

All I am saying is that I wish I had thought of this racket first....LOL

I was just at Partsarama in Pgh......the car show/cruise and parts meet was free to people who brought cars....although I somehow got suckered into paying $8...

I think we should all start going to the Clay City, KY show "Mopar Southern Classic".  It is a really nice track (1/4 mile) and have built all new restrooms and bleachers.
We are the ones who make these events a success or a failure.  I really enjoy the Clay City Show each year.  It is also in October and the weather is much nicer.  I swear I almost died one year at the Nationals from heat exhaustion (I was burnt to a crisp).  The weather is nicer in early October.

Clay City is right in the middle of KY and is pretty much right in the middle of the eastern US.  Centrally located, the show would be ideal to drawing cars from the North, East, South and West.

I have to admit though, the Nationals is a great event with lots to see and do.

I actually liked it when the Nationals was in Indianapolis as there was more room for car parking and a camp grounds right across the street.  Get up and walk in!   After years of Columbus, Ohio,  we have our schedule that we do every year.

:roflsmiley:  Sticker shock huh ?  The price I'm sure is escalated because of the track owner, not the organizers of the actual event. But comparably the $80.00 although steep is not so bad for three days for two people. The last few years we've just been driving down on Saturday, for me and my wife with NO CAR driven in still cost us $40.00 to walk into the show. Yes, it is a judged show, and they do have on site drag racing............but I don't think he pays the judges (free passes for the show) and he charges $100.00 to enter the races, so I still consider it fleecing the people to grab the $$$$$.   :roflsmiley:

Thtakind of what my first reaction was.

But I have heard its a great event.

For me, its 4 hours to carlisle or 4 hours to Columbus.....plust he hotel stays, meals, etc....so its a major expense.

Carlisle is it for me this year....as it stands I figure I could buy new seat covers or  a rear bumper plus other stuff for what I will be spending just to go to Carlisle....but it will be worth it for the experience!

Just praying no rain up or back.
