clueless... er make that "clusterless" in Des Moines

I think I should start a new trend ....gaugeless!  If no gauges then no speedlimit or re-filling fuel tank or even rain for no wipers ...LOL

this is the first template of my new instrument cluster  or dash

That is one of the original Hurst Vertigate shifter for the 4 speed. I bought this shifter in about '78 when they still came with the monster shift rods. I love it and wouldn't change it for anything. It's everything a real shifter should be ...LOL

seriously tho...its a very short-very positive shift, all in an inline pattern. ift the t-handle to downshift to first ...then from there its just straight back -straight forward -then straight back with no "H" pattern. Then of course the little handle is for revers. It is so smooth and crisp that I don't mind the hassle downshifting with the little "T" handle on the street. A big plus also is the shift rods that come with it... they are bigger than your thumb and there is absolutely zero flex or stretch. They are beefy shift rods then wrapped in a piece of thick wall pipe. Here is a crappy picture of them I took by stuffing my camera thru the shifter hole

not quite as cool looking as the pistol grip but sounds like a nice set up.

maybe not as cool looking i agree but more natural position to power shift with and better control. I always had problems with a pistal grip (unnatural position in my hand to me)

both those on ebay are verti-gate 2 with the "o-ring triggers" the shifters are cheap but the mounting kits can kill ....LOL

LOL..I prefer function over form

Here is an update on the replacement dash I was making . Hope to install tonite and have wired by morning....then on to the other half of the dash ...the heater controls and the stereo. Decided while I was  into the dash to make a new wiring loom to clean up some of the factory crap too! Plus add a second fuse box to the original (6 fuses just aren't enuff sometimes lol)

That looks really sweet man!! Coming from someone who has a '69 also, those dashs sure do waste a lot of space with the gauges.... I'd love to redo mine, but don't really want to go through the effort of it right now... maybe once I've had some fun with her!! ;D ;D
