Very nice car '73.  You going to put a 340 back in it right away, or just put something in it til the orig eng is reblt?  I have a friend who has built several of the 408 small blocks & has gotten some pretty impressive performance from them  I have considered this route, but have actually had very satisfying results w/ mildly built 360s.  The main thing a 360 needs is a little compression, & flat top pistons & shaved heads really wake them up. Of course w/E body cars there is room for just about any motor you want.  Is the 340 the orig eng?  Nos matching?  If so, then that is the best one to use.  Here's wishing you lots of greatMopar fun.   Ovmf

ovma...
original numbered 340 engine in car, working on spare '70 340... wanted to use that as the 'toy' engine due to higher comp ratio, forged crank, internal balancing... crank ground 20 under on mains, 30 under on rods before I got it, but it polished up really nice using 400 wet-or-dry and leather shoe-lace... ;  )  (one of the old-timer's tricks...) got all the journals within .0002 of each other, so all have to do is plasti-gauge them. Bores were mic'd at 4.0415), and only 2 thou taper, 3 thou out-of-round, so hone should fix up nicely. Can't believe it wasn't bored over by now...

Anyone... any idea how much you can fly-cut stock flat-top pistons??? the spare came with a mopar purple-shaft with .484 lift at valves (vs stock .422) on both intake and exhaust... one of the previous owners of the spare engine tried runnin it without relievin pistons, and I got some contact marks on tops of 4 pistons, and some bent pushrods. I'll fly-cut reliefs about .040 to .060 if enough meat to work with... they also ran the thing with rocker arm shafts upside down... OOPS

[made a good deal for me, though! 8  )   ]

73challenger... you jokin bout color of engine, right?!?!

4cruzin... mid-michigan location... where is the road trip in July??? Car has been local here since originally purchased... amazing considering the salt used... original dealer was local also...

tx to everyone else for the nice comments!
