Michigan is a great place since thats where i am also!!  73challenged wasn't joking but its the right color for what year the engine is but not correct for what year the car is!  lol  The road trip is to Carlisle PA for the Chryslers at Carlisle!!  SWEET!!   If you are interested, we can ride out in a caravan with other members here!!  Its so much FUN!!   Here is a pic of my 73!

k... the 'spare' engine has a blue oil pan... is that the color a 73 340 should be???
I think previous owners were mixin and matchin when they were movin the two engines in and out...

What color should the engine be??? I can try scraping down slow to see layers when I get original engine back out when swapping...

Welcome aboard 73_Cuda_4_Me, yup blue is the correct color for the 73 , but the correct color for the 70 is orange. I have a question though. Is the stock (original) 70 340 intake a dual plane design?

Not sure about margins on piston cut.  Maybe Chryco can shed a little light on that.  Color of engine is defintely wrong. Too much of a blue shade red.  I understand some'73 340s were red, but it is an orange shade red.  Most '73 engines were blue I believe.  The factory intake would definitely be dual plane though. I dont think there were any single planes from the factory except maybe on pure race engines, such as the Max Wedges & Hemis.  For street use, the dual plane is the best unless you are going to do most of your running, or a least a lot of it above 6000 rpm.  Again, Chryco is probably more knowledgable on this than me.   Any way, have fun w/ the car.   Ovmf

Nice car!

No orange small blocks after april of 1971.

All 340's had dual plane intakes(even 6pks)

Hope this helps:)

Hey 73 'C 4 Me, Love your car, I know you've read a bunch of things here about correct this and correct that, nothing wrong with that if you are building a points winning show car, yours already looks like one without it being correct;) If I had that car and had all the original equipment with it, I'd probably eventually put it back to original down to the last detail but with what I see, I wouldn't be in too big of a hurry cause it looks very sweeeet now! How's the undercarriage and all the floor pans and trunk? Anxious to see it all!!  :D
