Torsion bars wound up what happens to steering?
« on: July 02, 2010 - 08:44:32 AM »
Guys I need to wind my torsion bars up . I have a set of headers that hang to low for licensing. If I wind up the bars so I get the ground clearence am I going to get alot of positive camber? Also could I string line to to straighten everything up? Anyone know what the steering settings are supposed to be for a 1974 Cuda?

Cheers.

You will have to realign the car. Although the camber and caster angles will be affected, the critical one to get you down the road, is toe. Run a string to get the toe close enough for a drive to your local shop, and restore the angles it had before you cranked up the bars. The factory settings (or the ones you created for your setup) will be fine at the higher ride height. A little less camber (I like 0 degrees) might be helpful. I don't have the factory angles in front of me, but this is pretty decent: 0 deg. camber on right, .25 deg. left; 1.5 deg. caster on both sides, although more positive helps with "wander", and no more than .12 deg toe-in. I like to run zero toe, and with wide tires, zero is the only way to go.

I run 1/16 toe in , the tire drag will pull it out to zero that way , max the caster for best steering feel & run a slight amout of camber as suggested above
