Steering Column - Lock Cylinder

Well my car left me stranded last night...the key would not go into the ignition. :stomp: :swear: :stomp: :swear:  My guess is the lock cylinder is fubared. Glad I have a spare column! :bananasmi  I have a couple of questions:

1. how difficult is it to change the lock cylinder (74 cuda)?
2. can the lock cylinder be changed without changing the ignition switch?
3. do you have to remove the steering shaft from the column to remove the lock cylinder (as per the FSM)?

I just did the 73 Challenger, if I can do it anyone can.
 
There were a couple times I had a hard time figuring out how to get the next piece off.  The hardest part for me was getting that stupid o-ring off.  Then there's a steel band at the base of the interlock that has to slide off and a pin knocked out underneath.  That pin is a little wider at one end and will only knock out one way.

I got the ignition lock cylinder with matching door locks & 4 keys (2 cut, 2 uncut)  for $55 from a guy on ebay from Thunder Bay.

I'll be doing the Barracuda this winter cause the steering column was changed on it and the door locks and ignition don't match.  It's a PITA carrying that extra key and trying to figure out which one is for the door and which one starts the car.

I remember doing mine and the last part was a pita but I was able to get it without any special tools.

Hey thanks guys..got it done..,.took a little longer than I hoped, but was not too bad.  I spent more time going out to get the right length bolts for the steering wheel puller and new snap ring pliers (bought two and took one back (wrong size).

Got the car started and moved out of the drive way, :clapping: only to find a fuel leak!!!  :banghead:

Oh well, I can fix that!!!
