1970 Challenger and 440-6 engine
« on: October 22, 2004 - 04:59:42 PM »
1970 Challenger, runs and drives. Original 318 car, has a small block in it now with headers, aluminum intake, and 4 barrell carb. Not sure of engine size (tips on telling size?). Missing some exterior trim, and rear valance. Needs interior work. Has new headliner and vinyl top. Seems solid except trunk floor. $7000. Will include 440-6 engine for $2000 more.

Is that a 1970 Block? Would you sell the engine alone?  ??? :D

Hey PG, lets see some numbers off of the engine, it looks like a RB to me, if it's an HP it's worth every penny of 2000.00 if it isn't trashed inside and worth close to that anyway!  Check the engine ID pad right behind the water pump up close to the valley pan. :D

The car is in northwest Indiana. Yes, it runs and drives. I will try and look at the 440 block to see what the numbers say.

The 440 has a casting date in '69, but the pad says G440   12 16HP. That's all the numbers I can see. Also, the heads on the engine are supposed to be '67 smaller chamber HP heads. They have HP on them. Just a little FYI...

:o Wow PG, those numbers indicate that could be the engine that belongs in the car, build date of Dec 16th 69 would be right for the 70, maybe the original 6Pak setup as well. What does the harmonic balancer look like? Check out the picture and it should have a cast crank looking dampner on it, the crank for a 6Pak engine is forged steel but with the added weight of the 6Pak rods, they added the external balance on the 6Pak engines.  :)
