I think what he means is nothing really matters but MPH and car weight at the track. You can then correlate what your actual HP is without dyno error or dyno operator error. Make sure you also get the atmospheric conditions the day you run.  :2cents:

Are u trying to make me feel worse dude or what  :crying:.....

Sorry; no I was not I was just trying to give you a comparison

Are you just looking for barging rights of a 500 horse power motor or do you have a specific number you want to run at the track?

If you like how your car runs enjoy it if you want 500hp I think Edelbrocks or Indy heads are worth about 75hp???

Good Luck

Okay gotcha......heres what the sheet says.....94.4 F, 29.15 in-Hg, Humidity: 15%, STD 1.05

It was hotter and humid as hell....he said id make quite a bit more numbers in better conditions and maybe a lil more timing....

dodge boy....yeah dont really have a number....like i said...when i built this thing...my engine/ head guy told me easy 500 horse...then i rollered it..so i thought i would make even more...25-30 hp more?...   according to these guys and again in these conditions with a 20% loss for the auto....491.25 hp at the flywheel....so thats not too far off of 500 really....im sure the engine builder meant 500 flywheel numbers anyway....but after reading alot on here and around the dyno i was on isnt accurate and my numbers are prob even less...so that bothers me...I spent alot of money on this motor....lots of good parts and pieces....and the roller part was very expensive...just seems like i might of wasted my money there....if i can barely reach 500 hp at the fly wheel...ya know?.....unless Everyone out there has alot less hp than they say...with alot less spent....id have to tally it all up...but i know its a solid 6500 at least!...guess i thought i was gonna blow past that dyno....i was wrong :walkaway:

It's easy to give away 30-40 hp by running your timing too conservative. 38* total is a good starting point with iron heads.

myop , your engine builder wasnt too far off . making almost 500 at the flywheel is making really good power . thats alot for the street ,what engine?

okay theres a lot to answer here boys....here it goes...yes 1.5's rockers,...compression wize im already having to run  a high octane fule mix with premium gas...so what would be the reaction if i went even high compression (head gasket)?.....i seen a similar build in moparmuscle  steelies 906, roller, same compression....same carb, diff intake,.1.5 ration....only differ was cubic inch was a lil bigger......was 383 out to a 461 i think...it made giant horsepower.....way better than mine so it confuses me.....again the flywheel hp was a calculation from rwhp....and it was very poor conditions...maybe i should bump up the timing and take a cooler day...and i would feel better.....and no im not a drag raceror drag the car...i just wanted a mean ass 500 plus street car...i should take it to the track and see as u guys mentioned.......heres another deal...the guy that pulled in front of me had a 4000lb goat with a 400 out to a 461 10cubes bigger  and it pulled 17 hp more than mine with a flat tappet set up....he is running 12.8's 12.7's in that car (and he is experienced).....so im assuming ill be in the 13 teens??  not impressive to me......the guy behind me pulled 312 rwhp with a 350 30 over with afr alums heads.....thats only 80 some hp less than me with a stroked 451 roller....im not tryin to be a whiney ***** here...but that doesnt add up to me...
im at 34 degrees timing...don at FBO set up my dizzy (full mechanical) thats what he recommended for my set up??....will I hurt anything bumpin it up then?........I appreciate all the opinions...i do....this is my first performance car with bigger power...so i am fairly fresh....i can tell by talking to you guys...theres alot of knowledge on here....another reason im on here as well...to learn....thanks....

You better be on slicks or some really hot drag radials. Low profile tires do not absorb shock and break loose much easier than bigger sidewall tires.

The biggest problem with dynos are they look impressive and that leads you to trust them. They are simply big tools. For what it's worth, they all usually have some fudge factor calculated into them. In this case, IMO, 20% for driveline loss is high but the numbers sound close. I think you are close to the 500hp mark. Teh fact you upgraded to a roller cam doesnt mean the roller was enough to eclipse the 500hp number. Did you tell the engine builder to go bigger and get what you can? Or just "go roller"? Also a loose drag race type convertor will skew the readings a little too. There's a ton of number splashing taht goes on. Most dyno figures are WAY inflated and it's easy to do. I've even seen people add power on because of accessory and parasitic losses, affectively creating thier own power figures that are obscenely high... In your case, ported iron heads mean nothing unless they were flow tested. Because some people can get real power, and some can make them look impressive and hurt output. The fact that you have to mix race gas to me means your builder messed up and probably is runnig too small of a cam for you. But that's between him and you. As for new heads.. Expect to have to address teh camshaft, the heads, and the convertor at minimum. You don't need Indy either. Stealths or RPMs would be a good addition if the pistons are usable with a closed chamber design.

well moper...if 20% is high for loss..then taht doesnt help, that means my 393 is even lower at the wheels then right? 20 factored in gives me 491.25 at the flywheel...see when my engine guy who by the way specializes in bench flowing heads....told me to build a 400 for the street..500 would be and easy goal....that was before i decided to go roller cam, ect..which he tried to talk me out of...said it was wasted money,  so  his info was that i was gonna make 500 his way withought the roller....i also wanted alums heads...now this was in early 00  mind you...things have changed....flows, money, ect....he told me he could flow 452's just as good as any alums for alot less....AT THAT time mind u......now what he filed me up on is..that steelies with 10.5 dont work with pump gas....I did not know that...or i would of pushed harder for the alum's......so im kinda stuck i guess..ur right...im gonna spend a whole lot more to gain what??  50 horse???/ BUT i will be able to drive on pump gas.....so being kinda green not sure if i wanna go guessing on a cam change..which heads, possible valvetrain change up....ect........so i guess with my set up its a decent motor, not the torque monster i thought it was.....but i do need to run it at the track or maybe i dont...lol......might upset me further....who knows   as far as the heads....so he says.....(like the easy 500hp number)  285 cfm flow......on his ported 452's.....  cam wasnt my selection....cam motion picked it....i called cam motion in Lousinana......they ask me a ton of questions...heads, weight, gear, tire, ect.....ask me what i wanted, ect.....they grinded the cam....i have the specs if ur curious....hooked them up with my builder and thats what they put in....i know the lift is right around 567 @.50.....duration ect escapes me, but i can get it for you....is that too small??. for my setup.....wish i had this site before i built too....could of helped me big time...but it was 10 years ago too....lol

Sounds to me like you have breathing issues.  Did your intake get port matched?  850 is ok for that kinda of engine, I know that there are people here who swears by the PROFORM 950 carb.

As far as heads go that is pretty good flow for some 452's, but you could get you some Stealths and or some Eddy RPM's and break into the 300's.  Is your cam a solid roller?  That cam size seems releative to your CID so I dont think that is your issue.

I dont know much but I know what I have read and what some of the more mechinacal guys like to say when these questions come up.  Also what size headers do you have?  Are you running manifolds?

As far as your engine goes 500 & 500tq is a great goal.  Im sure with some tweaking you can get there.  Good luck.
