Most Correct Challenger Shaker Trim Ring?
« on: July 05, 2010 - 03:26:20 PM »
Curious if any of you have used the reproduction Challenger Shaker trim rings out there and what was your experience with them? I've found two distributors. First is from Jims Auto Parts and sells for $299. The second is from Ben Snobar/Shakerparts and sells for $100. Has anyone used either one of these products? Did it match the hoods contour and inset well? thanks sooooo much. I need to order one, as I've just ordered the 'Harms' style conversion Kit.

I don't know exactly where you would get the perfect piece that you are looking for, BUT do NOT, NOT, NOT, NOT get it from jims auto parts. They have the absolute worst customer service out there. Go ahead and ask about them in general chat, nobody here will recommend them.
Cuda is gone :(

Not sure, but I think Resto Rick, who carries the old HARMS shaker conversion kit, may sell you just the ring.  And I think it is quite close from what I recall.

shows 'Cuda kit, I think he has Challys too.

RestoRick is where I ordered the kit. Rick is such a great guy! Rick and I were trying to find a high quality ring like the Cuda one being offered from BE&A. I'm assuming if Jims autoparts offers that ring with an official mopar licence and part number, it would be offered elsewhere – maybe? thanks guys.

So the ring that came w/the Harms kit is crap?  Hmm...

I imagine that BE&A will soon be making trim rings for the Goodmark Shaker hoods that do not come w/a trim ring.  I'd contact Mike at BE&A when he plans on making them.

Not sure what Jim's sells, but I imagine it can be found elsewhere and not sure who makes that one.  I'd ask him.

Mike at BE&A confirmed a few weeks back that he is not making the Challenger ring. Please don't be mistaken, the Domingo/‘Harms’ ring is NOT crap – they just don't match the same quality of the reproduction Cuda rings Mike has (which are said to be an almost perfect match to NOS). At this point, I believe I will have Rick send me the Harms ring, as a perfect ‘NOS-equivalent’ ring is yet to surface. Thanks for your input guys.

Does anyone have the ViseGrip style flange tool that is included in other conversion kits? Would you be willing to lend or sell me it, as I'd like to see how well it works? This way, I'll have an option of using the step down flange piece included or the tool. Any feedback or experiences with that flange tool would greatly help as well. Thanks so much.

I made my own shaker hood. As I mentioned in another post, the ring is not perfect. Notice the front tip is dead on but the rear one isn't. You'll need to re contour it in small areas using Rolocs.

Another thing: don't waste your $ on the shaker ring gasket. Waste of money. Terrible fit, I had to cut it and make new holes for it to work.

Not sure, but I have heard that the ring that Sherman has could pass as NOS.  I have had some feedback regarding the fit and everyone is happy.  If you want one, send an e-mail.  If you don't like it, we can return it for a refund.  That is a no lose scenario.

hmmmm. that's interesting. Curious, what's that Sherman ring worth? I'll see if anyone else has an opinion about the Sherman ring. My main concern is the step down area – I'm on hold till I figure this out over the next few days. Thanks.
