I don't mean to hijack this thread but... I also have a 71 Challenger that I'd like to put a vinyl top on.  This was not an original vinyl top car though.

I know I need some trim pieces to make this happen.  Are they available for purchase anywhere?  If anyone has done this conversion; how difficult is it?

Jon,

Those pieces of trim you would need are not reproduced, so you are up against it in finding originals in decent shape. You can watch E-Bay, but that stuff doesn't appear often.

Mike,

And therefore those parts are sold for a premium I'd imagine...

I'm surprised no one makes them.  It seems like they have repros of everything else.

Thank you for posting.  Is it just the trim pieces that I would need in addition to the vinyl top?

The vinyl top trim shouldn't be hard to find.  There are plenty of origonals out there.  Other than the attaching clips and pins, that's all you'd need.  I don't think the drip rail trim is different on the vinyl top cars so you can use your origonals.

Picked up the vinyl roof trim pieces at Carlisle today for $60.  I'm pretty happy.  I'll have to tack on all the little studs that hold the trim, but it shouldn't be a big deal.  Thanks for the help fellas!

i wont be needing a hinge afterall.  about 3 weeks ago i took my door off and i was needing a pin and bushing kit so i took a half a hinge off the door.  ill be darned if i didnt lose it.

last night i was standing there staring at my car and lo and behold there it was down by the motor mount  :ylsuper:
