Header bolts leak coolant

How normal is it for the header bolts to leak coolant out of them?
Because mine do if I tighten them, and I've got one bolt that doesn't seem to be seating properly and it drips.

Put some liquid Teflon sealer on the threads and reinstall. The exhaust bolts go into the water jacket on both small and big block.

Yep, I use high temp ultra copper rtv on those bolts, never had a leak

teflon tape here. no leaks.

Ultra Copper RTV works great for sealing the water jackets and works great for header gaskets sealing.

Does this apply to aftermarket Aluminum heads (Edelbrock) as well or just the cast iron heads?

Humm don't know? But it wouldn't hurt anything using sealer on them anyhow .

A tube isn't all that expensive, and it will give you some insurance if in case you are going into the water jackets. All you need to do is rub the sealant on the first couple of rows of threads...Then as you screw the bolts in, it will spread out over the other threads.

Alum heads have blind holes & do not go into the water jacket
