Ever heard of a powdercoated body?

Went to the sandblastershop to pick up the chally which ofcourse wasn't ready but
the most disapointing thing was that they now said they couldn't blast any area with paint on it because it was just like it was powdercoated on it. So hard that they are afraid to damage the metal. How did they paint my car?

Well that does not sound right, I would check with another media blaster first.  Worst case, I guess you could use stripper to the most of it off first.

Are you using new panels?  If so it's probably got the EDP (electro-deposition paint) coating on it.  I think all you need to do is scuff and spray for these.

They are old panels. I tried before I left the car with sanding and it was very tough, had to use the black schotch disc so I guess I have to do it myself.
What kind of paint can it be? I guess it's only 5-6 years old.

my blaster didn`t dare to blast the panels either, but the edges were no problem. that`s what usually takes most time to clean up.  I had to deal with up to 9 layers of paint on some of the panels    some of them were like they never really cured.  I`d tell the blaster to at least do the edges of the panels and yank the rest off with a good sander and a #60 or 80 grit.  I don`t think there`s powder on your car ... 
what about the inside ander underbody?

It could be something like DuPont Imron, which is a catalized urethane enamel.  That stuff is very hard.

Just what my shop said aswell. They will do the underside, inside and trunk. Should be ready next wednesday. I have my vacationwork asured.

There used to be a POR-15 display at the Mopar Nat's.  They had a 70 Dart in the booth in different stages of bodywork.  The back of the car was pretty beat up and rusty.  The middle of the car was stripped. Next it showed POR-15 over the bare metal...then primer...then paint.  The front of the car was orange and completely restored.  I've been trying to bead blast parts that I previously coated with POR.  That stuff is coming off hard.  Could be something like that too.

Sure can, they said to take it to a sodabath if I didn't want to do it myself but I don't trust that stuff. Rather get some dust in my lungs.

Short answer:  NO.   There would be some serious orange peel that you really couldnt get around with such large surfaces, and I doubt anyone would try buffing it out

You can strip with an abrasive, but the safest way to go is with good old airplane stripper (available at your paint shop).  It is messy, but it takes the paint off really effectively.  It also leaves the OEM zinc finish on the panels if you are careful when you get the the metal stage.  After stripping, clean with thinner and recoat immediately with Oxi-Solve from Eastwood.  This will add a good zinc coat to any bare exposed metal that you have.  The zinc coating also promotes adhesion as well as providing extra rust prevention.

Here is a picture of my Ralley hood that we stripped with airplane stripper and then coated with Oxi-Solve.  Followed up with PPG epoxy primer to seal the metal.

Can't be. I just stripped my car of the old Imron painted in the late eighties. Came off pretty fast. Now the original paint, that's another story. Hard as rock.
