Tips removing torsion bars?

I just rebuilt my front suspension

But found out my torsion bars are worn out, and need to be replaced:  They are 340 torsion bars, and a 440 is now in place.  The bars are original, and need to go anyways

Any tips or removing them?   I played with them and thought about removing  them while  rebuilding my front suspension, but didnt go the whole route...........

Any tips/things to watch for when removing/installing torsion bars is appreciated

Back the adjusting bolt all the way out till there is no load on them. Remove the keeper clips from the ends, use somethig to clamp onto the bars and whack the clamping device till they come out. Easy as pie

DO NOT use vise grips if you plan to keep them or sell them.  Or ding them with the hamer.  Try not to mare the surface of the bars as you remove them.  There are a few companies that sell specific tools for doing this.  Or do what I did and build your own.  I used a couple of pices of thick flat metal (3/8" thick) and drilled four holes in each so they could be bolted together.  Used some long enough bolts to clamp them around the bar, and carefully smacked the clamp with a big hammer.

I undo the lower control arm pivot bolt & pry the arm & T bar back as 1 unit ,then slide the T bar out of the control arm

Me too. Bouncing the lcr a bit loosens it up then out it comes.

I 3rd that. That was the advice I got from Neil when I did mine last and it was easy as pie.
