6 pack parts car
« on: July 10, 2010 - 05:44:27 PM »
bought a parts shell today. Owner listed as chally or cuda 70`s body. I only bought it for some metal pieces. I was floored when I saw the E87 fender tag. 70 challenger purple 4 speed. This is a solid shell with orig rad support cowl and fender tag still in place. It may take me a few days to build the courage to sawzall the floors out of a six pack car!!!  Of course this thing must have been stripped waayyyy before mopars became the rage. Dash is gone as with rear sheetmetal but the bolt in rollcage is holding it all tightly together.

Looks like you need a good parts car for your parts car. I'd have a real hard time cutting up a v code car that still has all the tags but the door and dash. I've see guys build cars just about as ruff as that. I've seen some pretty tuff builds done on these forums. There are alot of very talented people on here.

Wow, a plum crazy, v-code, 4-spd, track pak donor car.  Any chance the guy you bought it from has the original dash or VIN plate?.....or knows where it went?   That would certainly be a tough one to part out.

The guy really knew nothing about mopars ,and said this was just left in his brothers barn many moons ago.The pictures do not show it ,but the floors are actually in awesome shape other than the holes where the cage is bolted in. No damage on inner fender from battery acid. cowl is nice, rockers are nice. this thing is 10 times more solid than either of my cuda`s. Damn shame.roof is nice too.I will be pestering the guy once more and hopefully I could find the original owner. Still sucks because I am itcing to put some rust free stuff in my 73 so I can sell it to finance the 71 build.Just cannot pull the trigger on cutting tools. So I will let it stay in the garage a bit.

Hacking a six-pack 70 for a 73.  :screwy:

Floor pans are dirt cheap if you use auto body specialties or something. They're just floors.

:iagree: You would be crazy to cut it up anymore than it is. You should sell it and use the money to buy new metal for the 73. Someone would pay good money for the shell.

Absolutely, sell the parts car to someone who will restore it.
Price out all the metal you need for your cars and sell the parts car for the value of the parts your getting for it.  Might as well be fair and you will probably make some cash in the process.

I would buy it as I am sure many a man on here would purchase it!!

Does the dash vin number match the radiator support and cowl numbers?

Thats the problem .Dash is gone.I have rad. cowl and fender tag match.who the hell would have sold the dash without the fender tag if it went to another car, I am going to apply for title search at dmv monday.Knowing my luck it will come back stolen, but if not I will be on a mission to track down the dash vin.I guess for a restorer who makes money off these cars there has to be some underground vin stamping guy out there, as we have all heard stories of the fake cars.I already have 2 projects so I would sell it once I find out more about the history. I cannot see the point of fixing it up without the dash vin.
fender tag shows fc7. with black vinyl and stripe delete. road wheels.3.54 tracpack
chrome exhaust tips.heavy duty 4-speed.console .rally gauges.
This would be awesome to build!

The feds can re vin the car.  If it doesn't come back stolen, you can get it re titled pretty easily.  Go for it.  Well worth the money.  I hope someone repairs it.

Hey cudahunter,
You say that the car can be "Revinned" by the feds, whats the process? If you have the body number and the fender tag, what do you do? As an aussie i am not familiar with US laws so Im curious, I cant stand the idea of cutting up a body shell just because the dashpad is gone. I see a DMV search would be a must, but what then? I have seen the odd vehicle around worth preserving if only it had the vin intact, Im sure other people here have too. Any advice would be great.

Wolfen,
I am sure Barry would be able to answer more questions about this than me.
Since you are in Australia, I have no idea what to do there.
Here, you must get DMV search.  Then I believe State Police search.
Then Fed search.  Then the feds will issue you a totally new vin that sticks to your door jamb.  I believe that is the process in this state but every state has some differences.  Alabama is the most relaxed about this as I am to understand.

I am no official on this and I am sure I havn't laid everything out for you but this is close.

Ok well thats interesting, I am in NC right now and am planning to make it my home base, i have seen quite a few cars when travelling around and a few are missing stuff like Titles, which arent so hard to renew, but its the missing VINS that have got me stumped. There is hope yet,  :woo:
