E or B body Dana?
« on: October 23, 2004 - 06:47:37 PM »
My buddy is parting out his 69 Camaro race car, it has a Dana in it that he doesn't know what it originally came out of.

Are there any stampings, or how do you find out if it's for a E or B-body?

Thanks,

Measure the distance between the middle of the spring seats

44 inches for B-body
46 inches for E-body

Most likely the rear is out of a truck or van and has been narrowed for the Chebbie

If it is out of a car, it will have a provision on the top-front for a pinion snubber
Truck rears don't have snubbers or even the place to mount them

I don't think the factory spring seats are still there.   It is set up with ladder bars, low 9sec car.

I'll look for the snubber mount, I'm sure that's not there either.  But if there are castings for 1 to bolt on, it's for passenger car?

I was hoping there was a PN cast or stamped somewhere on it.

Thanks

OK, I got these pics.
It does have the snubber mounting holes.
I can't measure the distance from flange to flange accurately because of the center section.
I can measure the distance from backing plate to backing plate, looks like 53.5"

Does anyone have a rear end out of the car that can measure to compare?

I guess there's only 1.5" difference between the B and E bodies so it's going to be hard to tell.

Still wondering if there is a PN or stamping somewhere?

Thanks

Find out what it is.  '68-'70 b-bodies are the desirable rear ends for e-bodies (works awesome w/the Dr. Diff leaf spring relocation kit).

That my friend is an e-body Dana 60. I just measured one in my garage and they're the same. Looks like a score. Try to check for the codes and see if it's a 3.54 or a 4.10 ratio. Jim

I was kinda hoping it was an e-body  ;D  I know the b-body would allow for larger tires, but I would think the e-body dana is much more rare.

As far as gears go, this thing was in a 9sec 69 camaro, it has 5:13 gears!

Next time I'm there I'll check for the date code and model #.

Anyone have a chart for the model # that Ragtop provided in pic (is this rear end or car info)?

Thanks,

Katfish
