Engine swap-318-360 motor mounts question
« on: July 13, 2010 - 04:26:45 PM »
I have researched this and seem to have conflicting information. I am doing a 318 to 360 swap in my 73 Barracuda. I have read just use washers to make up the difference. I have tried a lot of different ways to that and things just aren't lining up right. Should I just get the right brackets, or am I just doing it incorrectly with the 318 mounts? If anyone has done this with the 318 mounts, pics would be great.
Thanks

Jason

I used the 318 mounts on mine, I'll check for some pics.

Thanks for the replies guys. I managed to get it and am probably 40% solution to being done. Can't wait to get this 360 going. I was terrified that a Maxima or something like it wanted to race me with that low compression 318! The only thing that saved me was a great sounding exhaust! This sight is great and I appreciate the replies.

I can SO relate to this.  I'm trying to decide if I'm going to even bother putting a 4 barrel on the 318 in my 73 Barracuda or just start building the 340 block I picked up.  With the 2 barrel I'm pretty sure my Tundra would outrun the 318 and that just can't be.  Good luck with your 360, I'm looking forward to your impressions of the difference.  Just curious, if your running an automatic did you stay with the 904?  I just had mine rebuilt and I'm planning on it staying behind the 340 if I swap it in.

Jim, I am running the 904. I just need to adjust the kickdown. Everyone that is smarter than me pretty much says it will live just fine behind a mild 360. It is also lighter and less rotating mass. We'll see. The good news for me is I have an extra if it does go. If you are doing this, do yourself a favor and put the headers in BEFORE the engine. I didn't and am having a great(not) time with the driver's side. I am sure I will be happy with the 360 as I would bet I didn't have 150hp in the 318. Low compression, stock cam etc. What a pig.
