i'm trying to cleanup the wiring under my hood  :horse:  i would like to run my main power wire for my msd to main stud on the alternator, is there any reason i shouldn't do this?

If your regulator failed & the alt went to full charge the MSD may not survive , some of the voltage spike might be absorbed ont he starter realy as there is more load to take some of the power there although if you added that wire from the alt to therte I doubt it would make a difference now

yes, i'm adding that wire. i'm also running an 8 gauge wire from my battery to an aftermarket fuse panel that i installed. that's probabaly where i should run the msd to then at least it will be fused.

i read an old post about that extra wire to the starter relay and some guys are saying to remove the exsisting wire that comes from the alt. i would like to do this but can i since my battery is in the trunk? i'm running that wire down to the starter  not the relay.

I would leave the existing wire in place , MSD never used a fuse on the heavy guage wire
