71 challenger RT tail panel paint
« on: July 16, 2010 - 04:19:49 PM »
I have the totally auto grille silver paint, but I was wondering what edges exactly get painted on the rear tail panel when it is an RT.  Can someone post some pics of different angles showing the silver paint and all the surfaces / edges that are painted?  Thanks.

Its the same as an argent tail panel. Top edge gets the grille silver as well as the tail light openings. Just gets black paint where the dark argent would go.

Do u do side jobs??

I guess that question was to me?

A. Not right now. I never realy thought about doing this stuff as side work. And at this time I have no place to even think about it. But you are not the first to ask that. Maybe after I get a garage, then I can look into it. Just no way I can without a place to work. Sorry.

I might be able to help you. I will post some pictures of a couple of 71 Challengers that I worked on in my folder in the company section tomorrow morning.

I had too much fun with cars for today and ready to....

I have some pictures of a 71 Cuda grille that I worked on posted in there now.

My taillight bezel for my 71 R/T is unmolested and it's all black except for the inlay around the lenses which are silver. The rest of the tail panel is black also. Something alot of people forget to paint is the black strip that goes on the three pieces of trim on the quarters, and trunk lid.

noschevys,

My bad. I was replying to 71Challenger426ci when he was looking for help with his grille restoration. I should have quoted him first and was only pointing to work that I have done for other people.

Yes, the top of the inset panel is black, not silver as I painted it. I was very clear in response #72 in my company section thread that those are not my cars.  http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=64880.60 I discussed that with the owner of the hemi orange 71 and I had to follow the golden rule when in business, the customer is always right. ;)

Something alot of people forget to paint is the black strip that goes on the three pieces of trim on the quarters, and trunk lid.

That is true on the quarter and deck lid trim. Black from the inside right up to the edge in the middle. The rear picture of the hemi orange car is painted that way if you look closely. Another one forgotten alot is to mask the four horizontal lines between the headlight openings on the bezels.
