    I currently have some cheap low hanging headers, no idea what brand, came with the car, horribly dented and even got a hole or two, causing problems with plug wires, making me fed up.
    Since I'm holding out for a 3G Hemi at a later stage, I'm a little reluctant to go $$i TTi. Besides, they won't clear the Unisteer rack and pinion anyway.

    I won't mind take a little HP hit if that's the price I pay for clearing R&P, speed bumps, pot holes, the ground in general, and not going through generations of plugwire 5 like it is fun to replace it.

    So what I'm having in mind is Hedman Shorty headers, http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HED-78500/
    I got a small block, power steering, and a naive hope it will be a cakewalk to fit them. It's not like they demand a lot of space, and with the torsion rods and the steering box out of the engine bay, it should be enough room.

    The engine is a merry little mashup, guesstimated at 300-350 HP by the friendly people making the engine plan and milling the heads. Stock shortblock, Eddy Air Gap intake, Holley 4150 750cfm, 10.25:1 compression with milled heads. Cam is a hydraulic flat tappet, advertised duration 280/280, Lift .474/.474.
    Shouldn't be so powerful that a change to shorty headers will be noticeable other places than a dyno which it won't ever be hooked up to anyway...  ...or...  ...and this is my question, am I very wrong about that?

    I have never tried this but if the header fits I am sure it will be better than what you have now

    Might want to call hedman and see if they will clear the unisteer since it goes in place of the centerlink, correct?? -asking since I have these headers (though on a big block) and the collector points towards the centerlink so it may not clear a rack and pinion if there is one in that area.

    I recall reading some testing that showed the shorties lost 15-25 hp compared to full length headers. Not a huge amount, but if your not doing the dyno or the strip, shouldn't matter anyway.

    I don't think the alterktion has clearance issues the rack is in front of the motor, a unisteer is under the motor behind the k frame. I would use the shorty's if they fit

    ........ and that's  funny - I was looking into the Unisteer offering from Speedway ($999) and they claim it will fit with TTIs so are they referring to a small block or big block application? May have to stick to drop spindles and tubular upper control arms to keep the steering in check.

    Got an Alterktion, noticed TTi's wouldn't fit with an Unisteer, couldn't remember what the R&P on the Alterktion is, so I googled alterktion unisteer, and found one post here that suggested Alterkion is Unisteer equipped. That could be wrong though, and since it's ahead of the oil pan, it won't matter. Just being a little too quick to post there.

    But the shorties linked to here needs a TCI style mini starter according to the application notes.
    Is there several different styles of mini starters?
    Might as well buy some TTi's if the alternative is having to buy a new starter to go with the shorties. Won't be that much more $$ if that's the case.

    Why not just get a decent set of used headers slap some high temp paint on them. Then chrylser mini starter out of a junk yard?  At about half the cost of new parts.

    That makes a lot of sense.  :)
    Problem is, not many used headers for sale locally.  "Locally" translates into Oslo, Norway. Norway is known as the Fjordland, but sadly, many Norwegians think it says Ford-land. Mustangs have their own section at the traditional spring meet in Oslo, along with Corvettes and various hot rods.
    The only Mopar ones I found were for big block, and they weren't really local, more like national.
    Junkyards around here has mostly euros and asian cars.

    I'm considering to go Doug's D453 headers after I stumbled over 72hemi's excellent installation post.
    They should be possible to sell for about half price later, and give better performance until then.

    Tracking, got you.  I unlike most know what a fjord is.  I didnt realize you were overseas. 

    My suggestion to you would be to find a set of SB headers on craigs list and ask a member in that state to do you a favor.  I dont know how much you will save with shipping and all but its worth a look.  Same thing for the starter.  Im overseas right now myself or I would voulenteer to help you out if it came to that.

    Don I like your train of thought here! Lord knows over the years I've seen a ton of SB headers at meets and such. And I can ship... BUT I'm sure it be $$$$$

    Gentlemen, thank you for your shipping help offers, it's much appreciated!

    Knowing myself, I'm likely to go Dougs, since it will be a better solution until it's time to swap engines.
    And selling the headers then means the $$ spent will be about the same, and as a bonus, I won't stuff even more used Challenger parts in my already full storage.  ;)

    I already got a mini starter, I was just thrown off by the "use TCI-style mini starter", which I've had clarified by Summit Racing customer service is just their unneccessary difficult way of saying "use a mini starter".
