Rally Cluster
« on: July 20, 2010 - 09:17:49 AM »
While at Carlisle I had Real Time Engineering redo my tach and install their new electronic circuit board for the T/A. It looked so nice I decided to take the rest apart and clean it up and repaint the needles as they were faded. I also polished up the clear lens. I'm happy with the outcome. Have a look.

:roflsmiley:  Your right. I never change the date as a person needs to do it every time I replace the batteries.    :swear:    I'm just lazy!

Well I pulled a real dumb one. Hooked up some wires wrong and burned out the voltage limiter on the back of the cluster.   :stomp:   :swear:   So now I'm waiting for a new one from RTE. I thought about getting a new one at Carlisle but thought the old one was working so I didn't.   :violin:

On the bright side, better the voltage limiter, than the gas, oil pressure, and temperature gauges getting wiped out.   :grinyes:

WOW that does look great!  How hard was it to do?  I have one laying around and was thinking about sending it to the group rallye cluster deal that was going on but $550 was alot of money and decided not to.  Not only that, the company said that the more that sent in their cluster  . . the cheaper it would be.  After many sent theirs in, the company never reduced the price so I bailed on that idea.

I'm to cheep for that also. I got the guage fronts from these folks at Carlisle. Only $50.00 and I just pulled the guages and followed the videos on their site.

Instruction Videos:     http://www.premiumdashdecals.com/support.htm

When the needles were off I masked them and painted them. You need to mask the small gauges as the don't come apart. Just watch the video's and it was easy. I did mine and a friends.

Just don't connect the wrong wires like I did!!!!! :banghead:

I'm not sure I didn't yet Mike. I took the limiter apart and it was toasted good. Just hope that was all and not the guages too.   :pullinghair:

Ken,

If the gauges I mentioned are toast, then they will be sagging below where they normally sit. In other words, the needles will be hanging way lower than you are used to seeing.

They look real good Ken, that had to take a lot of patience and real good eyes, neither of which I have any more.  :2thumbs:  :roflsmiley:

So this is what happens when your burnt out............................your needle drops, I'll have to watch out for that symptom.   :smilielol:

Well I got the new electronis voltage limiter today from RTE. Got the cluster all back in and I was happy not to see the gages blown out. She is all working great again.

Ken, sure looks clean and nice (I didn't pay too much attention to that portion of the dash  :roflsmiley: ).  Did you get your shift button spring fixed ?

No Jim I have not. It looks like I need to get the whole shifter handle.  I don't think they sell just the push button. I had to laugh when I unloaded the car at home though.     :roflsmiley:    Look at the gas guage....I had a full tank when I left for Carlisle. The only driving there was to and from the trailer on the hill. The rest we used cruising around your area waking up the neighbors. Those three carbs like their fuel when you're having fun!!!!!!!!!     I do know I would be in trouble if I lived in a place like yours. I would be out every weekend ripping up those roads.
