Man that will be nice! I think I would run some 4.30-4.56 gears to be a monster 60' car, and still get good MPG with low cruising rpm.

My 2009 SRT Challenger has 3.92s, of course huge 20" rims too, but even in 5th you are at only 2k at 70, and about 1400 rpm in 6th at 70.

Been offline for awhile (army keeps me busy) so after reading some recent comments figured I'd drop a line again.  I want to do this swap not just for an overdrive, if i wanted just that i would have gone for a 5-speed, and yes a 6 speed definitely has "cool factor", but every time i drive a 5 speed it just feels like something is missing when i shift into 5th gear, so this swap is for me and what I want from my driving experience. My overall idea for the car is a retro styled T/A Challenger (Sam Posey SCCA Type), with updated drivetrain package, and real world driveability i.e. at least 18+ miles per gallon on the highway. The car will have 3.91's, motavated by a 440 BB with respectable output (shooting for 525+). So for me the answer to my delema was a steep overdrive. Most 5 speed conversions availible don't have that steep of an overdrive, and the conversion kits are expensive. So if I can show people that a 6 speed conversion can be done relatively cheaply, keep the car as unbutchered as possible ,and really show the work invovled to do so... then I will  :)

I will start posting the thread this September (Late) for those looking forward to it.

Cool idea. I havent done any research but arent viper 6 speeds rather expensive? I would think that would cost as much as a complete 5 speed conversion kit would

Well yes they are especially when new, but used ones can be had for 1-2k. I already picked up my T-56 from a 2004 viper, cost after shipping was 1.8k. Mileage on it was nil (it looks brand new inside and out and clearance specs are factory tight still). Also you can use any LS1 T-56 as well, which are considerably cheaper, but tap out at anything much over 450ft. lbs. This problem is fixed via aftermarket thru a M/Output shaft conversion which I've seen for sale at about $550. Quick Time makes bellhousings that can adapt either properly (you do have to specify which trans when you order, the Viper has a longer Input Shaft), I picked Mine up for $350 bucks brand new in the box, but have seen them as high as $600. The Input shaft on all T-56s is 1 1/8 x 26 spline, so find the appropriate clutch disc is easy and cheap. Output Shaft on the Viper Box is the same as on all 727's/833's, you could reuse your factory drive shaft just have to get it cut to length, the T-56 is definitely longer. I have all the parts i need and it cost me 3.46k to accquire it all, my car was an auto to boot so cost was a little bit higher. Obivously I shopped around quite a bit to get good deals on parts. The Keisler 5 speed kit is 5k after taxes want a hydraulic clutch kit add another $500 depending on taxes. Granted to save a majority of the money you have to have some fabrication skills and some tools. :working:

Haha jeez you've definitely done your shopping. I was thinking about going the easy route and just throwing in an overdrive gear in place of my 3rd gear in my A833 and then you just flip the shift linkage. I may just bite the bullet though and buy a 5 speed someday and leave the A833 as it is for now. I'd love to do a 6 speed but I dont want to cut up my trans tunnel.

Good luck with your build! I'll be keeping an eye on your thread!

Ahh ... well i will be going on leave here shortly, so  i will be going on leave either Jan 1 or Feb 1.  When you take 60 days of leave in the military, it is most definitely at the army's discretion. The day the colonel signs my leave form i will drop  a post, I can't wait to start both the thread and on the car! :wavingflag:
