Here is some pics this is 9 hours with a 129 dollar english wheel and another 3 hours of hammer forming, this is the front section built and temp installed ready for final trimming. Enjoy :working:





Major things left to do....make and install the mount for the clutch master cylinder, weld and finish floor pieces,

That is awesome work.  You might want to consider making a template/prototype model of that tunnel and marketing it.  Good luck with the rest of the proj!

Ok, we're undertaking this mammoth task on my 1970 big block  :working:.
Thanks for chronicaling it. I hope to do the same.
I did have a question:
You mentioned the drivetrain being too high, due to the positioning of the heaterbox and you talk about using different engine mounts? Is that right?
Was a different mount used or the rubber isolator?
I phoned Schmacher in Washington and he said that the isolators used for both the small block and big block are the same. Is this true?
But in the picture you clearly show a slimmer isolator.
Was a different isolator used or different engine mounts?

Your help would be most appreciated

sorry been offline a bit busy welding and finishing the tunnel about 50% finished,  will have more post up soon.  Rex with the Schmacher mounts he is right, the big block and smallblock mounts are the same ...for B and E bodies, however their conversion also covers C bodies and  I think that is why I had a problem with the mounts being to tall. Now for all intense purposes with a factory drivetrain this poses no issues(unless the bell/trans is from a BB truck), with the viper box being 3 inches taller then the factory trans,if you  have a factory A/C car like mine the bell housing is practically stuffed into the factory A/C box. I found out via some online sources that the mounts should be no more then 1.4 (1 3/8) thick for B&E bodies. So I called a local napa who had the mounts in stock and picked em up for 26 bucks. Which is only marginally more then the shipping to have Schumacher replace them with his 1.4" units. In the end  I put in the Napa mounts and gained 1/2inch clearance at the A/C box.  Also the proper driveline angle in a mopar is found with the car on the ground set at ride hieght and all the wieght on the suspension.  The angle should be between 0 degrees (measured from the oil pan rail) and .5 up at the tailhousing according to my factory service manual. The tolerance is +/- .5 degree. So you do have some room to play with.  My goal was to set the trans output shaft height and the oil pan rail angle the same as  the small block  that came out. I was able to get the height set perfectly and was within a quarter degree ( lower) then the factory combo, so I was well within spec.  So now when I get the car back on its own wieght again I can fine tune the angle with 3/16 shims (about a 1/4 degree difference. that is also why i built so much clearance into my trans tunnel as an overall whole. hope that clears things up a bit:)

Restomod- thank you very very much for your detailed and very informative response.
At the Jaguar forums (I helped design the Jaguar V8 and V6 engines :england:) I'm often hounded with lots and lots of questions. Most people are very grateful for the time I give. It doesn't take much to show appreciation.
My car is also a factory airconditioned car which I intend to keep working.

Well I am back and ready to finish my install. Things got a little hairy when the wire feed mechanism broke on my welder. After saving some additional scratch saving I had it repaired and reconditioned. More time was eatin up by the restoration and rebuilding of the front axle in my 87 W-150. The next few weekends will be devoted to finishing the install, look for more pics shortly.

I looked at that eastwood bender that you had blow-out on their site, what wall DOM are you using? .120"? It's only rated to .082"  :eek7: :icon16:

Quick update, sorry to those expecting pictures but, as murphy's laws state if it can go wrong it will. Shortly after getting my welder repaired, my air compressor which has serverd me faithfully  for the last 10 years crapped the bed. Tomorrow, I get to pick it up from the repair shop. More to follow but for now some teasers (stuff i didn't need the A/C for).
