Engine compartment heat
« on: July 23, 2010 - 01:04:22 AM »
What in the engine compartment can get to hot that it will make the engine start to miss?   I know that the shaker retains alot of the heat in the engine compartment and although the engine is fine interally . . the exterior components get very hot especially if it is 90*+.  So what would cause the engine to start to miss?  I have to assume it is something as when it cools off, it runs fine again . .

At first I thought it was the gas boiling but I think I have ruled that out.  What else could it be?   :dunno:

Electronics gurus blast hot components with a cooling spry from a can...Possibly a similar approach would identify the issue.     My old 240Z boiled gas bad in traffic but on the road things cooled off enough for it to get better, does yours?

Once it heats up, it really doesn't get better until I let it set and cool down  . . . usually over night.  In the morning, runs fine.   :banghead:

Where would I get a cooling spray?

Not called cooling spray... We get this at work. We call it canned air. Its made to dust out computers and other electronics. This stuff comes out of the can very very cold.

You've got that right! My 18 y.o. son has a fist sized spot on his stomach just below his rib cage where his friend sprayed him with that stuff, that is just now healing up after more than a week. It blistered up and looked just like a burn! The kid that sprayed him is a little off I think. He's known for doing stupid crap like that!  :clueless:

Another thought on a subject I have only read about...
Big Block fuel pump rods that are worn do OK when cool, not so when hot..

So thats it?  3 things to choose from?  Fuel boiling, coil and pick up coil in the distributor?   :dunno:   I think some of my problem is the fan doesn't run all the time and the shaker holds in alot of the heat . . . the car runs really cool though!

I agree on the shaker holding lots of heat. Go in my garage even an hour after I put NIKKI away, its a sauna. Anyway I'm thinkin fuel issue here, but a hot ign box would do it to.
