replacing trunk extensions in the Cuda
« on: October 26, 2004 - 09:08:41 PM »
My trunk extensions are pretty bad and I would like to replace them. However, my quarters are all finished out and painted. I cant see how to cut them out without a risk of damaging the paint or cracking any body filler. How much trouble are these to remove? Any tips on safe and fast removal?

Miketyler, that is a tough call.  I'd say if you took it to a competent body shop they should be able to cut the old ones out and weld in the new ones with minimal damage to your paint/body filler.  Then again, I had my one side replaced when the quarter panel was off, so it's tough to say just how easy it will be to fix the repair with the quarters still left on. ::)  Hopefully it'll work out for you.

I am going to attempt to pull them myself tomorrow. We'll see how it goes. Prior to final installation, what do you use to rust proof overlapping parts? I suppose the best joint is a butt joint that has no moisture traps but am not sure I will be able to pull that off on mating surfaces
