Anyone Familiar with COPART?
« on: July 26, 2010 - 09:48:36 AM »
Killing time this morning I get on www.copart.com & search one of our favorite late models & come across a piece that's valued at over 40K with repair cost of just over $4K, damage is described as normal wear, 4,785-miles & has clean title.
Bid ends 7/29 and is currently $150.00 ....I'm sure it will bring more but what's the deal?
Anyone ever bid or buy anything off Copart?.... What's the catch?

Same here. We buy all our inventory fron Copart,IAA and The Salvage Center. Some cars are dealer/recycler bids only some are internet only. Some cars have reserves that are or are not approved after bidding.  There are loading fees usually $30 there are buyer fees that depends on what the winning bid is and internet fees if bid that way.

So what Sinner said waddya wanna know?

Any insight as to why someone would choose to auction a low mile late model? Seems to me they would be better off with the local classifieds......Anywho Bother John is doing some legwork to see what the skinny is on this jalopy.

Wade this could be a 20 page post to amswer your question. First off the classifieds will never generate the $$$$ that the auction will. And the guys there are already credit worthy... no I gotta talk to the wife/wait for my check/and all the other BS. I will warn you... a CLEAN CAR-FAX means nothing (if thats a concern). Also currenty Copart has approx 200,000 registered dealers. And many MANY out of the counrty bidders.

hows that for a start?

Yeah clean cars lol, The ammount of re-worked late-model cars in the past 3-5 years that have been "fixed" for auction has trippled. So buyer beware for sure.

Anyone see the yellow 72 Chally there a few weeks ago?

cars at copart are only required to appear clean.  :misbehaving:
ive seen some with doors welded shut.   :faint:
and lot drives is a very sketchy term.
but photogenic sells.
wait till the 29th and watch the real fun.

dont misconstrue the comment. some vehicles are perfectly legit. some are castaways that are beyond the sellers skillset or have become financial burdens. like i said , the fellas here purchase lots of vehicles there , and yes deals are to be had. you just need to be prepared for the less than stellar condition. better to anticipate less and receive more , than the flip side of that coin.

That's kinda what I was thinking IF the price was right, but that's looking unlikely.
Guess it would not hurt to throw in a low ball bid & hope for the best.
